We continue our series of looks back on players who are recent prep graduates from Virginia/DC and how their careers have continued after high school. Today we look again back at the Class of 2016, which was a very deep and talented class of players who will be draft eligible again next spring. We will check the career progress of the nine position players who finished their prep careers ranked in our VA/DC rankings between 20 and 40.

Will Allocca C / Collegiate, VA / 2016

Allocca redshirted his freshman year at Virginia and only got 10 at-bats in 2018 as a redshirt freshman. Look for him to step into an expanded role for UVA in 2019.

Clayton Baine SS / 2B / Paul VI, VA / 2016

Baine saw a lot of playing time as a freshman at Radford, starting part time at shortstop for the Highlanders. He hit .222 in 81 at-bats but showed power, hitting 3 home runs as a freshman. In 2018, Baine suffered an injury early in the season and took a medical redshirt. He will play his 2019 season for Radford as a redshirt sophomore.

Derek Bjorlo SS / OF / Nandua, VA / 2016

Bjorlo signed his Letter of Intent to attend Coastal Carolina but did not end up playing there. He played his freshman season in 2017 at USC Sumter JC. During that season he hit .190 in 105 at-bats with one home run.

John Callahan SS / 3B / Stone Bridge, VA / 2016

Callahan went to George Mason after finishing his career at Stone Bridge. As a freshman in 2017, Callahan earned 33 starts and hit .138 in 109 at-bats for the Patriots. In 2018 he earned 14 starts and hit .130 across 54 at-bats. He does have three career home runs so far.

Jack Cunningham OF / RHP / Paul VI , VA / 2016

Cunningham went to Boston College as a two-way recruit and played both ways for the Eagles as a freshman in 2017 with his primary contribution coming as a reliever that saw him throw 19.1 innings in 15 appearances. He registered just 24 at-bats as a freshman but stepped into a fulltime role at the plate in 2018 as a sophomore. He started 46 games in 2018 and .243 in 173 at-bats, he also drove in 34 runs on the season for the Eagles.

Logan Driscoll C / Lake Braddock, VA / 2016

Driscoll has been an impact player since he stepped onto campus at George Mason. As a freshman in 2017, he was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team and hit .323 with a .413 OBP in 43 starts and 167 at-bats. He also had 10 doubles, 4 home runs, and 38 RBIs as a freshman. He kept it up in 2018, starting 56 games for the Patriots while hitting .342. He again showed power with 13 doubles and 4 more home runs to go with 37 RBIs. Most impressively, he threw out over half of would-be basestealers, catching 22 of 43 runners who attempted to steal on him during the season.

Andre Lipcius SS / RHP / Lafayette, VA / 2016

Lipcius was a two-way prospect out of high school but has emerged as a top prospect at the plate. As a freshman, he started 52 games at first base and earned Freshman All-SEC honors, hitting .275 in 193 at-bats with 14 extra base hits and 26 RBIs. His 2018 campaign was even better, he shifted over to shortstop for the Volunteers and hit .315 in 203 at-bats with 11 doubles and 7 home runs while driving in 42 runs.

Cam Remalia 3B / St. John's, VA / 2016

Remalia signed with and attended Coastal Carolina as a freshman, where he earned no playing time and then transferred to Division II Erskine College. He played the 2018 season as a redshirt freshman and contributed on the mound and at the plate. On the mound, he threw 31 innings with a 6.89 ERA in 10 appearances and 6 starts. At the plate, he had 38 at-bats and hit .158.

Fox Semones SS / RHP / Hylton, VA / 2016

Semones had a monster freshman season at James Madison and was named a Freshman All-American. In that 2017 season, he started 34 games and hit .316 across 136 at-bats while also hitting 3 home runs and stealing 8 bases. As a sophomore for the Dukes in 2018, he started 51 games and hit .291 in 189 at-bats. He showed improved power with 7 home runs and added 32 RBIs and 10 stolen bases as well.
