The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.

Take a look at a few games and players that stood out over the past week of play.

*Schools and player names are in alphabetical order.*

*If a player does not have a profile, we do not have the ability to feature them in a story.*

Bishop O'Connell

Shota Fogus RHP / OF / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2026

It was an up and down outing for Fogus as he had to maneuver through some traffic in his start. He had some early traffic in the first but made some pitches to minimize the damage. He then followed up the next two innings with putting up zeros. The fastball was up to 90 and settled at 86-88. He mixed in some mid seventies sliders as well to work off of the fastball. He had to work from behind in counts and the feel for secondary was inconsistent. When he did work ahead he was able to get outs and keep the pitch count down. There is a competitive edge that he brings to the mound that can bring some electricity to the field.

Jack Woda C / 3B / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2026

Woda made his presence felt early in his first at bat when he sent a hard hit line drive back up the middle for a single. He would come back up in his second at bat and pick up a double down the third base line. He has a calm approach at the plate that shows feel for the zone. When he does get his pitches to hit he doesn’t get cheated with intent in his swing. It is a middle to pull side approach with strength to the pull side. Defensively he did a nice job stealing strikes and presenting pitches. While he didn’t get any opportunities to throw out any runners, it is plus arm strength behind the plate with catch and throw ability. When given the chance he can be a weapon at managing the run game.

Grassfield

Giacomo Franco LHP / OF / GRASSFIELD HIGH, VA / 2026

It was a brief one inning outing, but it was a sharp appearance for Franco. He worked with a quick pace and tempo. His ability to spin the curveball for strikes was effective. He was able to land it and get some chases with it at 76-77. He worked ahead in counts with the fastball at 86-88 then used the curveball as the finisher. It is a quick arm that maintains arm speed with the secondary pitches that creates whiffs in the zone. With his ability to get outs and miss bats, he will be important for the Grizzlies success this spring.

Great Bridge

Cole Cinnamond 1B / LHP / GREAT BRIDGE HIGH, VA / 2027

In another early season look, Cinnamond showed his ability to land secondary and miss bats. He came on in relief and carved his way through the opposing lineup picking up eight strikeouts. He showed feel for four pitches in the outing with the slider being the go to secondary pitch. The changeup is a promising pitch that he got some weak contact on because it tunnels well off of the fastball. There was some traffic that he had to work through, but he was able to let his stuff play on the mound and work out of it. There is a starter profile with a high upside that continues to trend up early this spring.

James Madison

Jimmy Bollini LHP / James Madison High School, VA / 2026

It was a short sample size, but Bollini was electric in his short outing. He came in for the save in the seventh inning and retired the side in order to secure the win. It was a tough sidearm slot that was 83-85 with the fastball. His ability to land the slider at 76-78 was key. He was able to front door the slider as well as finish in on right handed hitters. He recorded a groundout and two strikeouts on the slider in his inning of work. The arm works from the slot and as the body matures the velocity will tick up. It was an exciting first look at Bollini who looks to be a weapon on this pitching staff.

Kyle Tyrrell C / SS / James Madison , VA / 2025

Tyrell was a big piece in the win for the Warhawks on Tuesday. He had one of their lone hits on the night where he kept the barrel in the zone and sent it backside on an upper 80’s arm. He also came up clutch defensively late in the game where he picked a ball out of the dirt behind the plate and threw a strike to second to throw out the runner at second in a high leverage moment. He did a strong job receiving pitches and controlling the run game. You can see the evident leadership that he brings to the team being the man behind the dish, and that sets them up for success.

Cael Yates C / Madison, VA / 2025

Yates was in control of this game from the beginning. He attacked the zone early and often throughout the outing, inducing weak contact early in counts and getting swing and misses in the zone. He painted the corners with the fastball that reached up to 89 and was sitting at 84-87. The slider was the go to secondary that was firm and kept hitters off balance at 79-81. He would mix in a couple of curveballs as well but the fastball and the slider were the go to pitches. As he got deeper into the outing he seemed to get stronger as the velocity held and he continued to get outs. He finished with six scoreless innings picking up five strikeouts and giving up one hit. He is a competitor that plays with composure that the Warhawks will look to throw big innings this spring.

Riverside

Charlie DePippo C / 1B / Riverside, VA / 2026

DePippo turned in competitive at bats each time he stepped to the plate on Monday night. He got the offense rolling early in the first when he got the barrel out early and snuck a ball down the third base line for a two run single. It is a quiet setup with slight rhythm in the hands that keeps a short barrel path and works middle to the pull side. To go along with his offensive contributions, he was strong behind the dish doing a nice job at keeping the ball in front and handling the pitching staff. He looks to have an important role in the heart of the order and being the guy behind the dish.

Trey Graydon RHP / 1B / Riverside, VA / 2025

Graydon was dominant in his start, and he really set the tone of the game early for Riverside. He was fastball dominant in the outing, really attacking the corners at 84-87 touching 89 early. The fastball got swing and miss in the zone and picked up strikeouts looking on the edges. He mixed in a few changeups throughout the outing at 68-70 with a significant speed differential and tumbling action that kept hitters off guard. It is a quick arm that creates some downhill deception from a high over the top slot. He worked into the fifth picking up eleven strikeouts and only one walk.

Tuscarora

Connor Quill 3B / SS / Tuscarora , VA / 2026

It was somewhat a quiet night from the left-handed bat of Quill, but he did pick up a single when Tuscarora tried to make a rally late in the game. It is a slightly open setup with some rhythm in the hands. He looks to lift the baseball with an uphill barrel path that has some pull side tendencies. The lean strength that he has added can play to his advantage with impacting the baseball. He has the chance to be an impact bat in the middle of the Tuscarora order.

Washington-Liberty

Jack Keane RHP / 1B / Washington-Liberty, VA / 2025

Keane gave his team the start that they needed to give them a chance to win. He threw five strong innings picking up four strikeouts and only giving up one hit and one run. There were a couple of innings in which he had to make pitches to leave runners stranded, and he stepped up in those spots and got out of the inning unscathed. He was 87-90 with the fastball touching 91 that held velocity well throughout the outing. He mixed in a few low 70’s curveballs that got some swing and miss but the fastball was the go-to pitch when he needed to get outs. He induced weak contact with the fastball working in on hitters with some late arm side run. Overall, it was a quality start that gave them a chance to win the game late.

Yorktown

Cameron Gonzalez LHP / OF / Yorktown, VA / 2025

Gonzalez came out of the bullpen and was able to throw important innings to secure the win. He threw three innings where he was competitive and attacked hitters. He changed tempos that threw the hitter’s timing off and picked up swing and miss. The fastball was in the low eighties and a bigger shaped curveball was the best secondary. The competitive edge that he brought on the mound really played a big part in his success.

Jack Ingram SS / 2B / YORKTOWN HIGH, VA / 2026

Ingram put some quality at bats together being on barrel with impact. He picked up his first hit by getting his barrel to the pitch down in the zone, picking up a double into the left center gap. He would pick up his second hit of the night with a hard hit line drive into center. It’s a balanced setup with rhythm in the hands that can control the barrel and use the field with line drive tendencies. The maturity and approach was a big thing that stood out during his at bats.

Grayson McCarthy RHP / 1B / Yorktown, VA / 2025

McCarthy was effective in his start on Wednesday. He threw four solid innings only giving up one run to a talented lineup. He attacked the zone with strikes being effective with the slider. The fastball was in the low eighties that set everything up later for the slider. He was able to get ahead in counts and use it late in counts with swing and miss. His presence and effectiveness on the mound was the quality start that Yorktown needed.
