VA/DC Class of 2027: Positional Risers
*Players are listed in alphabetical order*
Cole Goodman 2B / OF / NANSEMOND-SUFFOLK ACADEMY, VA / 2027Breakout performance at the Mid-Atlantic State Games. Very strong combination of power and speed. Turned out a 6.71 60 in early November. Visible strength present, especially in the lower half. Heavy barrel at the plate and it is loud impact from gap to gap. He hit this spring as a freshman for NSA and the quality of contact only continues to improve.

Brady Maxwell C / 3B / St. John's, VA / 2027Left handed hitting catchers are highly sought after and ones that are athletic are even more of a premium. Solid runner for a catcher (7.16) and it should continue to get better. Maxwell likes to get the hands extended and when the barrel is there on time, he can really impact the ball. The St. John's sophomore showed his offensive prowess during the gameplay at the Mid-Atlantic State Games. Solid arm strength behind the plate and has a chance to stay there long term.

kalvin murphy C / 3B / Indian river high school ches, VA / 2027Murphy had a huge year for Indian River and did not show any signs of slowing down in the summer or fall. Solid runner for behind the plate (7.04) that has functional athleticism. Arm strength is average and displays some accuracy around the bag. At the plate, Murphy has above average hand and bat speed. He does a really solid job keeping his hands inside and has doubles power with the potential for a little more from the pullside gap to the line.
|
Jackson Plogger OF / 1B / Broadway, VA / 2027Extremely strong lower half and has shown the potential for a solid run tool. Left handed hitter with advanced bat and hand speed. The valley area outfielder rotates really well and generates that bat speed with ease. Plogger displays impact to all fields and has a chance to be one of the better pure hitters in this class, which seems like an every year occurrence with Broadway left handed hitters.
|
Casey Rector 2B / SS / John S. Battle, VA / 2027There is just something about the way this one plays the game. There is no deciding when to turn it on and off for the southwest Virginia native. Every time we see Rector, he is flying all over the field making plays, including a ridiculous glove side play he made in front of our staff in early November. In addition to his ability to defend, the offense has flashed above average for his class. Solid bat to ball and has shown the ability to find the barrel on a consistent basis. Although he is more than likely a positional prospect long term, Rector has a chance on the mound as well.
