CARY, NC—The 18U National Team trials are underway with the 44-man roster competing in its first intrasquad scrimmage Monday evening. The players selected from Tournament of Stars have been split into two teams—Stars and Stripes—and will compete against each other this week, as well as against the College National Team.

Stripes took Game 1 7-3 in 10 innings behind a 3-for-5 performance from 1B Tyler Callihan (Providence HS, FL). The South Carolina recruit had five RBIs, with his bases clearing triple in the 10th inning being the big blow. He has a loose, quick swing from the left side and consistently makes hard contact. In his first at-bat, he pulled a 94 mph fastball off the end of the bat to right field for a single. He then hit 95 for an RBI single over second base. He popped out foul to third base in his third trip and then chopped an RBI groundout to the right side. In the 10th, with the international tiebreaker in effect, the bases were loaded after a single and a walk. With Stripes up 4-3, Callihan hammered a triple to right-center field to make the score 7-3.

Here are some other highlights from the game…
