2023 Team Preview - Tahoma

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Washington.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at the State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Washington. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and eventually releasing our preseason Top 25 teams in the state.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week and updating the Top 25 teams in the state.

Team Outlook:
Any discussion of the Tahoma baseball squad over the last few seasons has undoubtedly started off with ‘23 C Carson Ohland. The Washington commit is our #1 player in the ‘23 class and heads into his senior season with warranted hype. The highly athletic switch hitting catcher is a hit and power threat from both sides of the plate and has the defensive ability to handle a staff while shutting down the run game. It’s not a one man show out in Maple Valley though as the senior class has key contributors and there are a lot of underclassmen to get excited about. On the mound, look for ‘23 RHP Logan Pierce and ‘25 LHP Adam Jay to get a bulk of the innings at the top of the rotation. Pierce is a bulldog on the mound with a heavy FB and propensity for filling up the zone. Jay has exciting arm talent from the left side with a FB that was up to 85 mph in the preseason. Seniors Noah Lee (Olympic) and Jack Dodge (Northwest Nazarene) have plenty of varsity experience and should continue to be impactful bats this season. OF Conrad Henkel is a big speed/power threat who really stood out with his tools last summer. Beyond that, there is a large group of talented 2025-2026 prospects waiting in the weeds who have flashed exceptional performances in the last year and change. The Bears finished the 2022 season with a 16-7 record and lost a regional contest against a tough Eastlake squad. Given what they return on the mound and the offensive talent of their seniors, Tahoma looks to be ready for a strong showing in 2023.
