2023 Team Preview: Eastlake

Dan Jurik
Pacific Northwest Scouting Director

The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Washington.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at the State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Washington. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and eventually releasing our preseason Top 25 teams in the state.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week and updating the Top 25 teams in the state.

Team Outlook: Eastlake finished the 2022 season with a final record of 18-8 and bowed out in the 2nd round of regionals to Puyallup by a final score of 5-1. You’d be hard pressed to find another roster in that state that returns as much experienced talent as the Wolves for 2023. Bringing back 8 positional starters, 6 of which are entering their 3rd season of Varsity action. The top of the rotation is set with Senior RHPs Bryce Johnson (Oregon State commit) and Dylan Skolfield (Washington State commit) leading the way. Johnson has been on the scene as a top-ranked player for years now after his breakout summer in 2020 that saw him compete at the PBR Future Games. In addition to his pitching, he’ll be a powerful presence in the middle of the line-up for the Wolves. Surrounding him will be the powerful bats of ‘24 C Jack Edmunds and ‘24 OF Grady Woodward. Woodward has always been towards the top of our ‘24 player rankings and is one of the most dynamic speed/power combos in the state. There’s no shortage of size in the middle of the batting order but surrounding the big bats is a plethora of college bound talent that helps give Eastlake impressive depth, with consistent contributors such as ‘23 INF Levi Joyce (Edmonds CC commit), ‘23 INF Cole Murawski (Edmonds CC commit), ‘23 Luke Schlect, ‘23 Blake Borup and ‘23 Andrew Ahn (Linfield commit). Developing reliable pitching depth and establishing the top of the line-up are 2 areas of focus for Eastlake heading into the season. However those areas shake out, Eastlake should be considered a state title contender heading into the season.
