Fall Notes - 2024 Pitchers

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

The Seattle Fall Open was held on September 28th at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, WA. This event consisted of prospects from the 2023-2026 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing

.Check out our Statistical Release from the event as well as Trackman Files and our Blast Motion Leaderboard. Today we're spotlight 4 prospects in the 2024 class focusing solely on pitching

FALL NOTES

SEATTLE FALL OPEN - '24 Pitchers

Matthew Alexander RHP / C / Bonney Lake , WA / 2024

5’7, 155 lbs with a compact frame & some strength in the lower half. Aggressive, fast paced delivery. Gets some rhythm as he comes set prior to starting delivery. Wide side step into a high leg lift that drives front knee straight up. Gets bend on rear leg at hand break with a fully extended glove side. Arm path gets some length on the backside as he pushes ball back to 2nd base then swings up into a shorter, more compact action. High ¾ release. Everything has a brisk, fast pace from his first move out to his release. Clean direction towards catcher with extension out over front leg. Backside comes through after release and eyes stay on target throughout. Ball comes out of hand easily. Flashed a 3 pitch mix highlighted by a sweeping breaker with consistent bend/shape.

Henry Gramelspacher RHP / 3B / Rochester, WA / 2024

5’11, 185 lbs with a sturdy lower half and proportional frame. Works from the left side of the rubber with a slower, deliberate pace to his delivery. Rocks hands behind head for rhythm before getting into a coiled leg lift with big inward turn from the hips. Drops and drives on back leg at hand break. Creates slight shoulder angle but stays mostly level. Very short, compact arm path that stays bent throughout then accelerates into a high ¾ release. Generates impressive hand speed & really accelerates through the baseball. Braces up well after release with an athletic decel. Gets extension over front leg then finishes with a more upright stance. Flashed impressive pure stuff and made a considerable velo jump with the FB, sitting 86.5 - 87.8 and topping at 88. CB/CH give him a full 3 pitch arsenal. Big riser in 2024 class

Wes Lynch RHP / OF / O'Dea , WA / 2024

6’2, 170 lbs with a wide, square build in upper half and high waisted frame. Athletic, quick paced delivery with fluid movements throughout. Works fast into a tall, balanced leg lift with front knee driving up and back towards rear shoulder. Coils in with upper half as well, showing numbers to his catcher. Stays tall at hand break with level shoulders and a low glove side. Hyper mobile athlete that can really open up the hips and get down the slope. Full, continuous arm swing that generates significant lay back prior to release. Gets out over front side with a high ¾ release. Tight glove side with eyes on target. Backside comes around after release. FB topped at 85.2 and the velocity is trending in the right direction. Could see a big jump in pure stuff with a productive off-season heading into 2023.

Cole Pentin RHP / 1B / Bainbridge, WA / 2024

6’4, 205 lbs with an extra durable, workhorse type build. Present strength in lower half. Worked exclusively out of the stretch. Hands come set at shoulder height with a high leg lift at balance point. Slight coil into rear hip. Drop and drive action on rear leg with some shoulder tilt at hand break. Average stride length with some cross-action. Arm stays bent, compact as he separates with a shorter path for a taller pitcher with long levers. High ¾ release with length out front as he finishes. Tight glove side with eyes on target and a flat back over his rear leg. Controls his decel at the end of the delivery. FB comes out of hand easily with solid carry/life through the zone. Has a chance to make a big jump in 2023. Low effort delivery with sustainable intent.
