At the #4 spot in our countdown of the most viewed profiles this year is '23 SS Sebastian David (Lakeside)

David first came onto our radar back in the summer of 2019. At the time, he showed tremendous projection and potential with his lean, athletic build and solid baseball actions. Fast forward just over a year later and his work in the off-season had transformed his body into a physical 6-foot-1, 190 pound frame. After earning an invite to the PBR Future Games, he went out and had a terrific performance down at LakePoint, Georgia against national competition. At the plate, he showed consistent strike zone discipline and barrel control. Routinely generating hard contact and finding ways to get on base. Once on the bases, he stayed aggressive and swiped multiple bags across the event to help generate offense. Defensively he handled SS throughout and has really added polish to his fielding actions. Shortly after the event, David landed himself a commitment to Stanford. Currently ranks as the #1 player in Washington for 2023 and is in our top 150 of the national rankings

Scouting Report

8/25/20

David was phenomenal in all aspects at the Future Games showcasing some of the highest upside of any player at the event. Oozing athleticism at 6-foot-1, 183-pounds with wide shoulders with some defined lean strength, the young shortstop exhibited crisp footwork with solid hands and a stronger 86 mph arm across the diamond. His attention to detail on the infield stood out, and he looked the part of a future left side defender, although he has more than enough athleticism to shift to the outfield if necessary. At the plate, he utilizes a handsy-load that connects with a leg kick to work down and back before quickly working the barrel through the zone on a slightly uphill path. There is some strength through the zone with more aggressive use of the lower-half, and the potential that much more power comes seems likely. Even more impressive was David’s inability to stay still on the basepaths, and he racked up multiple stolen bases with long, graceful strides, and instincts that stood out even in a small sample size. There is a high-ceiling, and David is clearly a prospect to follow in the pacific northwest moving forward. He committed to Stanford shortly after the event.

David came onto the scene last summer at an event and quickly established himself as one of the top names to know in the 2023 class. An advanced athlete with reliable body control on defense, David keeps consistent control of his glove hand and is a soft receiver when fielding. As a hitter, the bat speed and strength stand out right away. Has an athletic set-up in the box with slight rhythm in his hands as he gets into his leg kick. Stays under control into landing and gets into a wider, athletic base position. Noticeable quickness in his hands and easy barrel action into contact. He’ll also see time on the bump where he’s been up to 85 on the look we had earlier this summer.

11/06/19

David is lean and proportionally built at 6 feet, 180 pounds with room to add more strength. He has a balanced, athletic set-up in the box and his head stays quiet throughout his swing. He keeps his hands tight to his body, allowing the barrel to work inside the ball. There is some rawness on defense presently, but he shows controlled lateral movements and is light on his feet. Which projects well for future development and overall polish. Arm strength creates easy carry on the ball and he should continually add more zip across the diamond as he gets stronger.
