Quick Hits - Seattle Summer Open (6.3.23)

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

On Saturday, June 3rd we were over at the immaculate confines of Bellevue College for our first open event of the Summer.

For most in the baseball world the summer schedule is as hectic as it gets. From scouts to coaches to players, everyone is traveling the country looking for the best experiences possible and many are trying to navigate the landscape to put themselves in the best possible situation to #BeSeen.

Our Summer Tour of open showcases takes the approach of making it easier for the player to find a local event, open to all grad classes and skill levels, and providing the opportunity to get in front of our scouts during the hectic schedule of summer baseball, keeping their PBR Profile as current as possible.

The Summer Tour of open events also leads to identifying prospects for some of the summer’s biggest invite only events like Top Prospect, Future Games, State Games and more.

With batting practice, bullpens and defense, summer events allow athletes to show off their progress and development from the off-season and present the most up-to-date information on themselves.

Quick Hits is a recap of some of the top performances that stood out to us on Saturday. It is not a ranking or top prospect list. Additional content including statistical leaders will be coming out as well.

seattle summer open (6.3.23)

‘24 OF Jace Rainey (Newport) - An immediate standout from the moment the workout began and Rainey started things off with a blazing 6.66 in the 60. A powerfully built athlete with lean strength, Rainey has a great balance of tools for the OF position and should be one of the more athletic uncommitted juniors to watch this summer.

‘24 INF/RHP Lleyton Daily (Cedar Park Christian) - Daily did a little bit of everything on Saturday but his arm talent on the mound is what made the loudest impression for us. A wiry 6’2 frame with long levers and room for development. Daily flows through his delivery & features a loose, whippy arm action with major projection. He was 83-84 on this look with a hard, tight SL and there’s every indication that the pure stuff is only going to improve.

‘24 RHP Jacob Carlson (Olympia) - Carlson showed a live FB in the 79-82 range from a ¾ slot with carry/life into the zone and shaped 2 tight breaking balls with above average spin. At 5’9, 150 he maintains body control down the slope with a soft landing. The arm path is long, smooth and loose with extension out front.

‘25 RHP/1B Jeremiah Henning (Decatur) - After going through the position player workout at 1B, Henning jumped on the mound and finished the day with a strong impression. Features a heavy, sinking FB at 79-82 to go with his CB/CH repertoire. Pitches with a simplified delivery and a full arm swing that shortens up into a ¾ release with compact arm action. FB consistently finds the bottom of the zone and has the look of an offering that will generate weak, ground ball contact.

‘25 1B/3B Jacob Swanson (Issaquah) - Swanson showed some of the best raw output in offensive categories on the day. Showing loud exit velocities up to 97.4 with an avg of 87.5 as well as an avg bat speed of 75.2 mph. There’s some intent in the forward move but he maintains barrel control and avoids getting too long. Overall the barrel covers a lot of the zone and he can create consistent lift without getting extremely uphill at contact.

‘26 OF Tommy Belle (Bishop Blanchet) - Belle looks poised to have a big summer and is going to be a name coaches should get familiar with. Swinging it from the left side with a smooth, fluid path, he makes consistent flush contact and can drive the ball with consistent loft, especially to his pull-side. Defensively he moves easily in the OF with loose strides and a strong, accurate arm. One of the top overall players in the emerging ‘26 class.

‘26 OF/RHP Hunter Anderson (Enumclaw) - Well rounded athlete who had a complete workout from start to finish. Anderson is an athletic 2-way talent with the chance to make an impact both in the OF and on the mound. The run/throw tools should play long-term in the OF. At the plate he took consistent rounds of BP with a balanced, line drive approach and worked the middle of the field. Also pitches with a 3 pitch arsenal and a FB that currently ranges 74-76 but all indications are that more velo is on the way as he continues to get stronger.

‘27 INF Noah Kwon (Risdon Middle) - One of the younger players at the event, Kwon flashed a mature overall feel for the game with actions that should play on both sides of the ball. Defensively he has quick, active feet and keeps momentum through the play. Controls glove hand well with an athletic exchange. Offensively he stays tight/connected with a quick swing that produces line drive contact. Works the middle of the field and stays balanced throughout.
