Quick Hits - Upperclass/Underclass Summer Showcase (6.12.21)

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Over the weekend we finally got back into the swing of summer events and headed over to Bellevue College for our first Washington event of the summer. Over 80 prospects from the incoming senior class all the way to rising 2026 grads came out to show their stuff under pristine conditions.

Summer events events such as this provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future Games and Junior Future Games

Earlier this week we posted our Statistical Leaders from the event.

Today, we will be taking a look at some of our first impressions from the event. This isn't a top prospect list but rather some things that stood throughout the day.

2022:

SS Richard Barkley (O’Dea) had an all-around solid day and continues to make consistent progress in all areas of his game. One of the most well-rounded INF prospects still available in the ‘22 class

Switch-hitting catcher with some defensive versatility, Deacon Boyce (Richland) did a little bit of everything on Saturday. 5-10, 170 with an athletic frame. His ability to control the barrel and spray contact from both sides of the plate really stood out.

SS/RHP Oliver Brown (South Anchorage, AK) made the trip down from Alaska and had himself a terrific day. Topping at 87 on the mound with a smooth, easy arm path and feel for his secondary offerings. Also showed smooth defensive actions on the dirt & gap to gap type power at the plate in BP.

Aden Dance (Sumner) showed plenty of physical tools and looks poised to have a big summer. Strong bodied athlete who can run, throw and hit the ball hard. Just finished a very successful spring season.

Jeramiah Crain (Puyallup) had one of the best combos of power and arm strength on display. Swings with plenty of intent, reaching EV’s up to 98 and also showed his usual heavy FB at 86 mph.

Richie Rodriguez (Auburn Mountainview) had one of the best workouts at the C position we saw on the day. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag on his throws with a best pop time of 2.03. Flashed quick, consistent actions out of the crouch with a tight arm slot

2023

Carson Ackerman (Woodinville) boasts an impressive combination of size & strength at the catcher position. While also making a jump on the mound and running his FB up to 85. Frame still projects as well.

Tyler Bugbee (O’Dea) did everything well throughout the day. Solid runner who profiles well to OF. Took a mature round of BP and was all over the barrel in his rounds.

Alex Chamberlain (Mount Si) showed added strength/size & had a strong day at the plate. Showed off his toughness by taking a throw to the nose during infield and continued with his workout. One of the more physical athletes we’ve seen in the ‘23 class

Lucas Christensen (Kings) displayed the power potential with a peak EV of 97 in BP. Also ran well in the 60 and was up to 80 mph from the OF. Strong corner INF/OF profile with left-handed power.

OF Donte Grant (Puyallup) was a dynamic playmaker this spring and showed why during the event. 6.85 runner with an accurate arm and contact left-handed swing. Arguably one of the top position players still on the board in the ‘23 class.

Luke Gurr (Skyline) once again ran the FB up to 85-86 and showed off a clean, repeatable delivery with consistent FB command. The size & strength also translates to the plate where he shows left handed juice and was up to 94 with his EV.

Brady Foster (O’Dea) impressed with his size and arm talent both from the OF and on the mound. During the defensive workout, Foster was up to 92 mph from the OF. Then worked up to 87 on the mound from a high ¾ angle. High upside arm.

We got another look at OF/RHP Braden Hartley (Rochester) and he continued to trend in the right direction. Improved numbers in both arm strength and exit velocity. 2-way potential at the next level.

Oliver Hogan (Garfield) posted strong numbers across the board and is a balanced prospect with size, strength & speed. Handled 3B well and showed consistent contact throughout BP.

At 6’5, Loic Landskov (Skyline) has one of the bigger, more projectable frames to grow into. Creates a large catch radius at 1B with his size and length while also creating plenty of leverage at the plate.

Parker Norah (Mount Si) has some intriguing skills to work with, especially on the mound. As an INF prospect, he shows off arm strength & some bat speed. While as a pitcher, he creates a tough release point from a lower, borderline sidearm slot. Nothing stays straight out of hand and he topped at 84 mph with his sinking FB.

INF Jay O’Neill (Stadium) was a smooth performer with an easy left-handed swing. Physically he was much stronger with a thicker frame from the last time we saw him at an event. The extra size translated to higher EV’s and a balanced, repeatable swing.

Logan Shepherd (Olympia) was one of the top EV performers on the day with a peak of 97 mph. Also posted an impressive run time in the 60 which gives him one of the best power/speed combos we saw on the day. Definitely a name to know heading into the summer

OF Brendan Stein (Auburn) is one of the best athletes we've seen in the '23 class. Long, athletic runner who glides in the OF. Frame is highly projectable & he has the skills to handle multiple positions on the diamond. Bat will develop more power as he matures.

LHP Landon Welter (Kamiakin) is going to be a highly productive pitcher over the next 2 years. A polished lefty with 3 pitches for strikes. He commands everything with ease on the mound and his secondary pitches all play up due to his ability to consistently throw strikes.

Underclassmen (2024-2026)

‘24 Nathan Woodside (Woodinville) continues to show advanced baseball actions for his age with one of the more powerful left-handed bats in his class. High energy player who can impact the game on both sides of the ball.

‘24 Cooper Kleinow (Grandview) topped at 80 mph in his bullpen while also ripping off a sharp CB with up to 2400 rpm. Has the chance to grow into some more velocity as he matures and gets stronger. Intriguing arm talent.

‘25 Mason Hill (Bellevue Christian) has smooth, simple actions and an impressive feel for the game for a youngster. Handled both INF and OF duties, showing some versatility then took a consistent round of BP with gap to gap contact throughout.

Just a 2026, OF/LHP Dylan Mamiya (Kennewick) is highly athletic at a young age. Runs, throws and swings with intent. The left/left profile is a plus and he should be a prospect to keep an eye on as he continues to develop and get more reps
