Uncommitted Spotlight - 2023 Prospects

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Earlier this Fall we updated and expanded our 2023 class rankings for Washington. While a good portion of the class has made their commitment, there are several talented players left on the board.

Class rankings are updated multiple times throughout the year with the goal of helping coaches/evaluators identify players in the area.

Today we're spotlighting 3 uncommitted prospects who impressed last year and will be pivotal contributors as seniors in 2023.

2023 prospects

Jake Daily C / 3B / Chief Sealth Intl, WA / 2023

One of the top remaining bats in the ‘23 class, Daily has really shown the ability to impact the baseball on our looks. Offensively, he sets up with a crouched, athletic stance with slight hip hinge. Uses a quick, compact load as he takes forward stride and lands in a balanced hitting base. Swings with aggressive intent and an uphill path. Posted an impressive avg EV of 90.9 mph with a peak at 98.1 mph on our last look. He runs well for a C in the 7.20 range and is a capable defender. Quiet receiver behind the plate, maintains flexion in glove hand while receiving. Quick out of his crouch with a high, tight arm action and over the top release. Has also shown the feet and glove hand to transition to a corner INF spot as needed.

Micah Hagler C / RHP / Kennedy Catholic, WA / 2023

Extra large frame at 6’4, 210 with length and leverage. High waisted build. At the plate, starts tall & narrow with upright posture and lower half slightly open. High, active hands with rhythm prior to forward move. Gets wide at landing and uses a push back load with hands to move barrel into launch position. Stays very tall at contact, creating easy lift with swing path and maintaining leverage. Defensively, does a nice job staying low and being compact for a tall catcher. Shows with the hips and smooth transition out of stance. Tight arm circle with throwing motion into high ¾ release.

On the mound, worked exclusively out of the stretch with sound mechanics and simple actions. Stays tall on backside with subtle flexion before pushing down the slope. Shoulders stay level at hand break with an average length stride for his height. Arm path gets extended early then shortens up into a more compact motion with a high ¾ release. Balanced finish out front against a strong front side and late intent through release. Controls a full arsenal with FB/CB/SL/CH.

Oliver Hogan 3B / SS / Garfield, WA / 2023

6’2, 180 with proportional strength and an athletic frame. Hogan possesses quality tools across the board & is a very complete INF prospect. 6.9 - 7.0 runner with defensive versatility to handle multiple INF spots. Moves well on his feet with light actions and sound lateral movement. Soft glove hand when receiving into a clean exchange. Loose, easy arm action with ability to manipulate slot. Offensively shows a simple, relaxed set-up with minimal moving parts. Short forward move on the ball to create separation. Hands accelerate quickly into the zone with easy bat speed. Swing path covers plenty of depth and allows for hard contact to all fields. Gap to gap power presently with a line drive approach
