2015 OF Kyle Schulz weighing his options

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director – Wisconsin/Illinois

Outfielder Kyle Schulz (Kenosha Bradford, 2015)has a great approach to the game. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound left handed throwing outfielder shows excellent composure in game play as well as on the mound. His cool calm demeanor bodes well for him at the plate where he seems to work counts well and take quality at bat after quality at bat. His two strike approach is solid and is a tough strike out. On the mound Schulz works from the left side out of a high ¾ arm slot. His arm works clean and he controls the mound well with an up tempo pace. His fastball sits at 77-79 mph coupled with an 11/5 breaking ball at 63-64 mph. Schulz also sprinkles in a changeup at 68-70 mph. Schulz athleticism and feel for the game should make him a hot commodity going forward in Wisconsin’s 2015 class.

Since participating in the Midwest Future Games Schulz has been on the search for the right fit at the next level and is still searching for what exactly that right fit will be. Kyle Schulz

“I am still trying to figure some of this out. I think one of the most important things is being comfortable with the coaching staff. Are they interested in me and the things I can do?  I am not a big kid, so the coaching staff has to be interested in the skills that I have, speed, good defense, and a high contact hitter.  I also am looking at a coaching staff that will help me continue to develop as a left handed pitcher," said Schulz.

Schulz has been in contact with the University of Ohio, Eastern Illinois, Oakland University, Bradley, Northern Illinois, and Illinois State. He is also hoping to draw interest from UW-Milwaukee as he has a high interest in their program.

Last year Bradford went 22-6 and Schulz helped the Red Devils earn a spot in the State Tournament by picking up the win on the mound in the Sectional Championship game. Schulz earned first team All-Conference and first team All-County. He hit .455 on the year and went 6-0 on the mound.

Schulz will be a big part Bradford’s success in 2014. He is the top returning hitter and pitcher for the Red Devils as they lost many of their 2013 squad to graduation.
