2018 Overall Rankings Update: Wisconsin Recap

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The 2018 overall rankings were updated last week on the heels of the Wisconsin state rankings. The overall rankings were expanded to 150 and Wisconsin saw its list of players in the overalls expand to eight of the top players in the state.

Wisconsin’s 2018 class is led by one of the top prospects across the region in OF Jared Kelenic (Waukesha West). Kelenic has made the rounds this summer on some of the biggest national events and showed well, holding on to his top ten spot in the PBR Overall Rankings. His L/L toolsy attributes is the biggest reason he is so highly rated and already a Louisville commit.

New to the overall rankings are LHP Jackson Pothast (Sheboygan North) and C Jacob Campbell (Janesville Craig). Both cracked the top 150 and have climbed in the state rankings as well. Pothast is a highly projectable southpaw who can sit in the low 80’s with his fastball, his pitchability and frame make him a high follow and would not be shocked to see his stock continue to rise over the next three years.

Campbell rounds out the Wisconsin representation in the overall rankings, he already possesses a physical build behind the dish which physically can draw comparisons to the state’s top senior, C Ben Rortvedt. His overall defensive abilities are superior to where Rortvedt was at that age but time will still tell if his bat will take a similar path.
