Austin Schulfer commits to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Stevens Point Panther Austin Schulfer is the latest Wisconsin native to make his college decision. Schulfer, the No. 4 ranked prospect in Wisconsin’s Class of 2014, decided to stay a Panther and commit to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Schulfer is a hard throwing right handed pitcher from Stevens Point HS who played an impressive role in Panthers successful season. The Panthers finished the year with a 27-5 record coming up one win shy of the state championship. Schulfer was instrumental down the stretch for the Panthers recording a save and a win in the State Tournament.

We’ve seen the 6-foot-1, 150-pound right hander up to 89 mph in the State Tournament, pitching comfortably at 86-88 while spinning a tight 74-77 mph curveball. Schulfer clearly has the stuff to pitch at the Division 1 level and should make a big impact for the Panthers down the road.

When making his decision Schulfer said,” I was looking for a program that would work with players to get to the next level, and a program in which I could trust the coaches and enjoy my baseball experience in college.”

When it came down to making his decision Schulfer said he had made only one visit, which was UWM, but “University of Illinois-Chicago and Creighton” were also in the running. Schulfer said, “When the more I thought about it the more I could only see myself playing for coach Biggler and Doffek.”
