Fox Cities Preseason I.D.: Infield Analysis

By Wisconsin Staff

On March 6, PBR Wisconsin made its annual winter trip to Appleton to host the Fox Cities Preseason I.D. at the Players Choice Facility. This was an open event for all high school classes (2021-24), and gave our staff an ample look at the area's top players.

Shortly after the event, our staff collaborated to highlight the biggest takeaways and highlights from the showcase and published them within our Quick Hits piece. We then analyzed the traditional statistics we measured that day and published our findings within this Statistical Analysis. With the help of our TrackMan units and Blast Motion devices on-site, we published a TrackMan Files and Blast Motion Board, further highlighting the statistical winners from this Appleton-area showcase.

We previously published position-by-position analysis, covering the day’s catchers and outfielders, and we’re onto the infielders today.

There’s a powerful group of first base-types among this group, led by Gradin Taschner (Neenah, 2022; uncommitted). While Taschner possesses special upside from the mound, if he really wanted to, he could certainly continue to project comfortably inside of the middle of a quality collegiate lineup.

Junior Carson Fluguar (Franklin, 2022; uncommitted) showed off his offseason gains at this event initially, with added strength that made for substantially louder bat strength in right-handed batter’s box – and he retained his speed and athleticism. Polishing up his middle infield defense will help him gain the attention of more landing spots at the next level, because the tools are there. His diligent work over the last offseason suggests he can make those improvements.

Underclassmen Logan Kraus (Fond du Lac, 2023; uncommitted) and Javin Gauthier (De Pere, 2023; Illinois State commit) enhanced their prospect profiles here. Kraus used this performance to catapult himself onto the state’s ‘23 rankings, while Gauthier continues to look like one of the top freshmen we’ve seen thus far.

Continue on for reports on these players, as well as the rest of the infielders who attended this March showcase in Appleton.
