Fox Cities Preseason ID: Blast Motion Board

Kevin Cronin
Tech Analyst, Area Scout

On Feb. 12, PBR Wisconsin hosted its latest event along the 2022 winter showcase circuit, the annual Fox Cities Preseason ID at Players Choice of the Fox Cities in Appleton, Wis. Nearly 50 players made it out to this event, providing us with updated looks and a new list of players to follow in Wisconsin in an area that continues to help us add myriad new names to follow this spring and summer.

Earlier this week we published Quick Hits highlighting the top prospects of the event by class. We also rolled out a Statistical Analysis, bringing you a quick statistical analysis of those that participated in the event. We then dove deep into the data, looking at the pitch metrics and batted ball numbers from this event inside our TrackMan Files piece.

Today, with the help of our Blast Motion sensors, we're analyzing the swing metrics measured on Saturday at this high-caliber showcase.

Hand Speed (Peak & Average)

6 Eli Pantzlaff WI Waukesha West 2023 1B 22.9 mph

Peak Hand Speed: The observed maximum speed as measured on the handle of the bat (measured six inches from the knob of the bat). Peak Hand Speed will occur prior to the moment of impact, very close to the commit time in the swing when the wrists unhinge.

Bat Speed (Average)

Rank Name State School Class Pos Bat Speed (avg)
1 Caden Popp WI Appleton North 2023 SS 77.6 mph
2 Ryan Csida WI Kimberly 2023 OF 73.2 mph
3 Bryson Koehne WI Norte Dame Academy 2024 1B 73.1 mph
4 Trevor Vande Hey WI Wrightstown 2025 CF 73.1 mph
5 Eli Pantzlaff WI Waukesha West 2023 1B 72.7 mph
6 Rheis Johnson WI Denmark 2023 C 71.7 mph
7 Brayden Olson WI Saint Croix Falls 2023 3B 71.2 mph

Bat Speed: The observed speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact. The sweet spot of the bat is measured six inches from the tip of the bat.

Rotational Acceleration (Peak & Average)

Rank Name State School Class Pos Rot. Acc (max)
1 Trevor Vande Hey WI Wrightstown 2025 CF 28.2 g
2 Ian Dohms WI Menasha 2024 SS 25.7 g

4 Owen Gerhardt WI Fox Valley Lutheran 2023 CF 24.0 g
5 Rheis Johnson WI Denmark 2023 C 23.1 g
6 Caden Popp WI Appleton North 2023 SS 22.5 g

Rank Name State School Class Pos Rot. Acc (avg)
1 Trevor Vande Hey WI Wrightstown 2025 CF 23.6 g
2 Eli Pantzlaff WI Waukesha West 2023 1B 21.3 g
3 Ian Dohms WI Menasha 2024 SS 21.0 g
4 Drew Bruckner WI Bay Port 2025 MIF 20.0 g

Body Rotation: A swing that has the appropriate relative contributions of body and bat rotations is an efficient and Powerful swing that maintains proper sequencing. An efficient baseball swing is one in which the body creates the initial movements, which is then transferred to the arms and out to the bat, thereby maximizing Bat Speed through this proximal-to-distal kinematic sequencing movement pattern.
