Future Games: Quick Notes from Wisconsin's Day 2

WESTFIELD, IL – Wisconsin’s second day at the Future Games didn’t start out quite as planned dropping a 10-3 contest to Team Select, then rebounding in game two to squeak out a 1-1 tie to Kentucky.

Here’s a few quick notes from today’s action:

+ LHP Jack Eagan (Wautoma) started off Wisconsin’s day touching 90 mph while sitting 86-88 in his inning of work.

+ Nate Brown (Arrowhead) came into the Future Games as quite possibly one of the biggest sleepers around and will be leaving as one of the big winners in the recruiting game. Brown sat 88-89 mph with a bending slider at 74-76 mph that caught several hitters swinging. Brown’s arm looked loose and athletic and showed the ability to repeat and hold velocity.

+ Zach Gilles (McDonnell Central) showed game changing speed on the basepaths. Gilles dropped two drag bunts getting down the line at 3.73 and an oppo line drive single. Gilles also stole two bases but has yet to be tested in centerfield.

+ Adam LaRock (Eau Claire North) had the hardest hit ball of the day will a scorching triple to the right center gap.

+ Matt McCarty (South Milwaukee) topped out at 86 mph with heavy sink.

+ Ryan Schmitt (Arrowhead) finished off Wisconsin’s first game with a quick 1-2-3 inning striking out two. Schmitt’s fastball reached 88 mph and challenge hitters aggressively with it.
