On Sunday, August 29, the PBR Illinois staff traveled to Judson University to host the Illinois Phenom Scout Day. More than 35 players from the Phenom program, representing multiple different grad classes, showcased their talents across a pro-style workout to our staff.

Read below to find our staff’s prospect notes from the day, including a handful of standouts that popped up onto the prospect radar after this event. 

POSITION PLAYERS

+ INF Richard Dibble (Temper, WI; 2023) has a lean, 6-foot, 155-pound build with room to add and project. Defensively, Dibble was one of the top infielders from the event, showcasing natural infield actions with active feet that allow him to range with ease in any direction. Dibble also displayed a loose arm that played accurately across the infield, topping at 77 mph to his target. Offensively, the right-handed hitter utilized a short, simple swing and maintained quality balance through contact. He flashed strength to the pull-side of the diamond and consistently made contact out front, too. 

+ OF Charlie Jackson (Waukesha West, WI; 2023) has a 6-foot-3, 200-pound, strong, athletic build. Jackson ran the day’s fastest 60-yard dash, clocking a 7.06 on our lasers. The left-handed hitter also tied for the highest exit velocity on the day at 96 mph during BP. Jackson starts in a wide setup and swings with intent and natural lift throughout. He repeatedly worked the middle of the field flashing above-average bat strength with a max distance of 338’ (has recorded 359’ in the past).

+ INF Gavin Duran (Harvest Christian, 2024) was another impressive left-handed hitter from the event. The 5-foot-7, 150-pound, sophomore has a loose, quick, athletic swing with a knack for hard contact. He has a quiet, smooth load and intentful swing with an uphill path. Duran worked mostly to the middle/pull-side of the diamond with his furthest ball travelling 348’ off the bat at 90.59 mph. Duran, who may profile best at second base at the next level, has clean footwork and steady hands.

+ OF Haidan Janke (Huntley, 2024) has a 6-foot-1, 197-pound, wide-shouldered, well-proportioned build. Offensively, the right-handed hitter has above-average strength in his forearms, stays flat through the zone and made hard line-drive contact during BP. When dissecting his Blast metrics from the event, Janke excelled when it came to average hand speed (23.6 mph) and on-plane efficiency (87.2%). Also, registered a max exit velocity of 91 mph. 

+ INF Ryan Kondrad (Lake Zurich, 2024) is a 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter with a strong, athletic build. At the plate, starts in a tall, relaxed setup with minimal wasted movements and fluid pre-pitch rhythm. Kondrad stays on plane with a short path to contact and flashed whip and looseness with a max exit velocity of 89 mph and max distance of 334’. He’s an upside right-handed hitter in the Illinois 2024 class. Defensively, he is a steady, reliable defender with feel and body control. His arm plays short and from multiple platforms, topping at 80 mph across the infield.

+OF CJ Regillio (Crystal Lake South, 2024) passes the eye test when he walks in the park thanks to his 6-foot-5, 185-pound, long-limbed, highly-projectable frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter swung a loose bat that stayed on a level path through the zone, creating occasional leverage through contact. The best batted ball during his round of BP came off his barrel at 96 mph. Defensively, Regillio profiles as a corner outfielder with a long arm action and his arm topped at 75 mph. 

PITCHERS:

+ RHP Dimitrios Bourmas (Harvard, 2023) was one of the biggest winners coming out of the event. Bourmas, who was making his PBR debut, has a 6-foot, 170-pound frame and high-level spin metrics across the board. The arm works clean, uninterrupted and loose with plenty more in the tank. His fastball jumps out of the hand at 87-88 mph with late arm-side life and hop through the zone. His fastball also spun at an average of 2394 rpm with a max induced vertical break of 19.7 inches. The separator for Bourmas is two distinct breaking balls that both average 2480+ rpm. The curveball (71-72 mph) has elite spin for his age, T2705 rpm, and works 12/6 with tight, hard downer action at times. His 73-77 mph slider works off more of an 11/5 to 10/4 plane but has the same tight spin and possesses potential swing-and-miss action moving forward. Bourmas should be a high-follow arm in the 2023 class.

+ RHP Ethan Dorchies (Cary Grove, 2024) emerged as a name to keep tabs on in the coming years. Dorchies boasts  a long-libmed 6-foot-3, 160-pound highly projectable body with a loose, whippy arm to pair. He worked downhill with a tall-and-fall type delivery, producing easy velocity from a ¾ slot. His fastball sat comfortably in the 78-80 mph range, topping out at 81 mph with arm-side life and occasional cut. Dorchies displayed an 11/5 breaking ball with sharp action at 64-66 mph, as well as a developing splitter, which he was able to locate down in the zone at times with arm-side fade. Dorchies’ frame looks to have room for even more velocity in the near future. 

+ RHP James Allie (Crystal Lake South, 2023) impressed with some of the best pitchability in the entire event. Sporting a three pitch mix, Allie showed feel for all three of his pitches with the ability to locate down in the zone. From his 6-foot, 160-pound frame, Allie uses a drop and drive lower-half and a loose over-the-top arm slot. Allie’s fastball had an average velocity of 79.7 mph, as well as a top fastball velocity of 81.2 mph. The right-hander featured a sharp 11/5 breaking ball in the 64-66 mph range and a fading changeup in the 69-71 mph range. Allie has gained nearly 13 mph since our last look back in January of 2020 and with this recent velocity jump it would be no surprise to see continued gains in the near future. 

+ C/RHP Henry Stried (Zion-Benton, 2023) had a strong showing on the mound and turned out one of the best bullpens in the entire event. Standing at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, Stried works with a minimal effort tall-and-fall delivery down the mound, paired with a loose ¾ arm slot. The right-hander’s fastball sat 80-82 mph with sink and arm-side life, also thrown for strikes. Stried paired his fastball with a sharp 11/5 breaking ball in the 68-70 mph range with feel for the zone, tunnelling well off his fastball. He also displayed a fading changeup at 74-76 mph, kept primarily down in the zone.

+ RHP Wilson Wemhoff (Hampshire, 2025) was a big winner at the event, showcasing a loose/easy arm with the ability to repeat his delivery. The right-hander’s fastball sat 75-77 mph with sinking action, touching 78 mph on his best bullet. He also displayed two breaking balls; a short 11/5 breaking ball at 64-65 mph and a sweeping 10/4 breaking ball at 65-67 mph. The right-hander also featured a fading changeup at 69-70 mph, kept down in the zone.
