Kenosha Preseason I.D.: Preview

By Wisconsin Scouting Staff

This Saturday, Jan. 26, the PBR Wisconsin team will host its first showcase of the new year, the Kenosha Preseason I.D., at Fielder’s Choice Training Academy. For the past two years, this event has provided our staff with an opportunity to evaluate high school-aged prospects from Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, primarily. The Kenosha event has historically revealed to us some of the area’s top talent, which in turn has allowed us to share our findings with college evaluators and the rest of the scouting community.

This year will be no different. There are are nearly 70 prospects slated to join us already for this weekend’s event, and there’s still time to register, too.

Taking a look at last year’s roster, 17 of the prospects in attendance have since committed to play at the next level, including Tyler Swanson (Burlington Central Catholic, 2020), who committed to Evansville in October. The Burlington-area shortstop came away from the 2018 Kenosha showcase as one of the top prospects to follow. In 2018, Swanson asserted himself as one of the best players in the state’s 2020 class and is now ranked within the top-40 prospects. He’ll be there on Saturday, too.

Joining Swanson on Saturday is one of the state’s budding freshman talents, Union Grove’s Remmi Sweet (uncommitted). We first saw the skilled outfielder at the Future Prospects Showcase in Milwaukee last March and then again in live game action at the PBR Junior Future Series at The Rock. His standout performances at both events earned him an invite to the prestigious Junior Future Games event in Westfield, Ind., where he represented Team Wisconsin.

Sweet is a plus runner, timed at 6.68 in the 60-yard dash in Indiana. He’s also equipped with above-average bat speed and has made consistent hard gap-to-gap contact in our looks. It’ll be interesting to see where Sweet is at, developmentally, as he gears up for his first spring of high school ball.

There will be a plethora of sophomores in attendance on Saturday, many of whom we’ll be getting our first up-and-close looks at, but one member of the 2021 class we had the chance to see last spring during the high school season: Leo Falletti (Wilmot; uncommitted). This will be the first time we’ve had the chance to see Falletti in a showcase setting, but he stood out to us last April when he started and led-off for his high school’s varsity squad as a freshman. He’s a versatile prospect who can bounce all over the field and is a natural athlete with some feel at the plate.

Lastly, we’ll quickly mention junior Jack Heiring (Christian Life; uncommitted). Heiring is among the top ranked prospects headed to Kenosha without a commitment, ranked on the top-30 border in his state’s class. He was one of the top overall prospects at this very event a year ago, and represented Team Wisconsin over the summer at the PBR Future Games. He’s a legitimate two-way prospect in a 6-foot-4 frame packed with athleticism.

What’s exciting about our preseason events is discovering what we don’t know. There’s a great number of prospects headed out to Saturday’s event who we have yet to see for ourselves, and bound to be more names added to our list of follows coming out of Kenosha.
