No. 1 Arrowhead Sweeps No. 24 Verona

HARTLAND, WI – No. 1 Arrowhead and No. 24 Verona met Saturday morning for doubleheader. With many scouts in attendance to get a look at Verona catcher Ben Rortvedt, Arrowhead swept the doubleheader in convincing fashion.

Game 1: Arrowhead 6 Verona 1

In game one Arrowhead jumped on freshman starter Reagan Klawiter in the first inning scoring twice. Two-hole hitter Tanner Williams worked a walk with one out and came around to score on a double by Jeff Holtz. Holtz again delivered in the third inning with a big two run double plating Dominic Clementi and Tanner Williams. The Indiana commit, Holtz finished the game a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Nick Bastien went 2-3 with two bunt singles and an RBI to

Junior starter Derek Crawley threw a complete game for the Warhawks to pick up the win. Crawley allowed just two hits and one walk over seven innings of work.

Verona scored its lone run of the game when RJ Woppert hit a sac fly to plate Tyler McClure who walked to lead off the inning.

Game 2: Arrowhead 9 Verona 3

In game two Arrowhead scored nine runs on ten hits. Arrowhead took advantage of some bad bounces and defensive miscues to come away with the victory. Jeff Holtz continued swinging the bat well going 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Florida commit Nate Brown went 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Logan Kellog went 2-2 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored. Andrew Miller picked up the win for the Warhwaks working 6.1 innings.

Verona catcher Ben Rortvedt made solid contact all day, but didn’t have the results to show for it.

Arrowhead moves to 9-0 on the year and returns to action on Tuesday at home against Catholic Memorial. Verona drops to 4-5 on the year and returns to play Monday at Madison East.
