No. 15 Tremper 10, No. 8 Indian Trail 2

KENOSHA, WI – The talent coming out of the Kenosha area in recent years has been extremely impressive and two of the headline names in the 2016 class hail from the southeast corner of the state. SS Gavin Lux (Kenosha Indian Trail) and 3B Just Lavey (Kenosha Tremper) are both in the top five of the 2016 class in Wisconsin and top 50 in our coverage area. The two squared off Thursday night in a Southeastern Conference matchup, but it wasn’t just about Lux and Lavey. Both No. 8 Indian Trail and No. 15 Tremper are in our Power 25 Team Rankings, speaking to the extensive level of talent on both teams.

On Tuesday Indian Trail got the better of Tremper in their conference opener 7-4 and the Trojans would get revenge on the right arm of junior Jacob DeLabio. DeLabio looked sharp from the onset showing us some of the best velocity we’ve seen out of the lanky righty. He would retire 12 of the first 15 hitters he faced and seemed to dial it up a notch when the situation called for it. DeLabio went 5.2 innings of one run baseball and probably had a chance to finish it if it wasn’t for a two out error in the sixth that led to another run. Sophomore Mitchell Buban came on in relief of DeLabio to finish the 10-2 Tremper victory.

Tremper struck right away in the first with an RBI single off the bat of Dayton commit Jeff Steuck. Steuck finished the day with three hits and two RBI. The Trojans then broke things open in the fourth when the aforementioned Louisville commit Justin Lavey delivered the big blow, squaring up a gapper to right-center for a two run triple, making the score 6-0.

UW-Whitewater commit Noah Jensen spoiled any chance of a Hawks comeback in the sixth when made a spectacular diving catch in centerfield with the bases loaded and two outs. A knock there would have scored at least two and brought Hawks leadoff hitter Gavin Lux to the dish.

A three spot in the seventh sealed the deal and the Trojans evened the season series 1-1.

Hunter Weddel was a catalyst of the Tremper offense, the sophomore outfielder reached base in all five plate appearances scoring three runs on one hit.

Sophomore Ryan Hoerter had a perfect day at the plate for Indian Trail going 3-for-3 with three singles and a run scored.

Both team are back in action again on Friday as Tremper takes on Burlington and Indian Trail will try to get back on their winnings ways against Westosha Central, who is off to a hot start to the season.
