No. 5 Denmark rolls past Mosinee

MAUSTON, WI – No. 5 Denmark is our top ranked Division 2 team in the state going in to the season, largely in part to their four headed monster of pitchers coming back for their senior season’s in 2015. Today at the Woodside High School Challenge we saw a pair of those arms in action as North Dakota commit, LHP Riley Pelischek got the start and the win and Chicago State commit RHP Tanner Umentum closed down the 8-3 win over Mosinee.

Pelischek worked five strong innings, striking out seven while allowing just two earned runs. Pelischek used a balanced combination of his 83-85 mph fastball with a 1/7 CB that showed swing and miss type action.

Umentum came in to finish things off working two hitless innings. The Denmark RHP flashed good feel for his 11/5 curveball matched with good arm side action on his fastball.

Derek Van Pay led the Viking offense with a three hit day, driving in two runs and scoring once. Jack Collins also added two RBI.

Denmark doesn’t have the most dynamic lineup, but if their arms can continue to pitch like this all year they won’t need much offensive output. The Vikings will clearly hang their hats on their pitching prowess and should continue to be a top ten team in the state all year.

Denmark and Mosinee will resume action tomorrow as Mosinee takes on Osceola and De LaSalle, Demarks picks up tomorrow with Hayward and De LaSalle.
