PBR Future Games: Wisconsin Position Players

The 2016 edition of the PBR Future Games is now in the rear view mirror, but several of the Badger State's top prospects are getting major interest from colleges across the country. As we head in to the fall season we take a look at all of Team Wisconsin's position players, with a full scouting reports from the weekend.

Team Wisconsin finished the weekend 1-2 scoring 16 runs in three games. Top offensive performers for Team Wisconsin included Noah Berghammer, Alan Roden, and Conner Manthey who each knocked in three RBI over the weekend. Tanner Kohlhepp provided the biggest bat of the weekend going 3-for-7 with a double and triple, driving in two runs.

Catchers

Ben Cameron, C, Waukesha West, 2018
5-foot-11, 190-pound catcher, solid frame with strength. Feet work well defensively, active blocker, ability to recover quickly, 7.26 runner in the 60. Arm played on line from an over the top slot, 75 mph out of the crouch. Pop times ranged 2.01-2.08. Right-handed hitter, path stays on top of the baseball, line drive path, flashed bat strength with a middle of the field approach. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Jacob Campbell, C, Janesville Craig, 2018
Committed to Illinois shortly after Future Games. Strong stocky build with sloped shoulders, 5-foot-11, 195-pound catcher, durable athletic build. 6.98 runner in the 60. Defensively is athletic and quick out of the chute, posted pop times at 1.97-2.01. Plus arm strength for his age, 83 mph out of the crouch, carries well to target. Offensively showed bat strength in BP, barrel control, hard opposite field contact. 92 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Ian Drays, C, Jefferson, 2018
6-foot, 200-pound catcher, strong stocky build. Offensively shows a strong bat, hits from a balanced stance, quiet setup. Bat strength with pull side pop, takes aggressive hacks, 96 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 75 mph out of the crouch, Pop times ranged 2.03-2.11. Durable receiver, gets out of the crouch well. 7.49 runner in the 60. Projects as an offensive catcher with middle of the lineup potential.

Connor Manthey, C/3B, Columbus, 2018
6-foot-1, 205-pound catcher/third baseman, large strong build. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride. Strong fast bat, shows pull side power, makes hard contact in BP and game play, good barrel control with bat strength. Hit a double with three RBI in game play. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively got out of the crouch well, ability to block and recover well. Pop times ranged 1.97-2.05. Threw out a runner in game at 2.08, showed accurate arm with carry, 79 mph. Moves well for his size, ability to defend third base at a high level, good body control with above average range to glove side. 7.42 runner in the 60, 4.44 down the line.

Infielders

Evan Albrecht, SS, West Bend West, 2018
5-foot-10, 146-pound shortstop, athletic frame, live loose body type, will carry more strength. Stood out as one of the better middle infield defenders at the event, highly athletic, showed quick twitch actions at times, had a knack for the spectacular play all weekend. Hands are soft and showed arm to play the left side (83 mph), advanced actions. 6.89 runner in the 60. Offensively grinds out at bats, showed better approach in game than in BP, projects as a singles top of the lineup type hitter. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Aggressive base runner, speed to be a base stealer at the next level, swiped two in games, finished 2-for-7 in game play. Grinder type ball player, game plays up.

Noah Berghammer, SS, Janesville Craig, 2018
6-foot, 178-pound shortstop, live loose body, premium athlete, flashy quick twitch actions. Ran a 6.69 laser timed 60. Defensively showed quick feet and well above average range, soft hands and excellent body control, plays well on the move. Arm has enough to play the left side (86 mph) showed it off on a backhand play in game to take away a base hit in the 6-hole. Offensively grinds out at bats, took several quality at bats, seeing and fouling off pitches, leadoff type at-bats. Showed quick hands at the plate with a fast bat, can let the ball travel and plate disciplined. Went 2-for-7 in game play with a triple and three RBI.

Jarrett Fueger, 3B, Waunakee, 2018
6-foot-2, 175-pound third baseman, carries strength. Offensively hits from the right side, slightly open stance, tall setup. Aggressive approach, swings hard, hits off back side, path is flat through the zone. Produced hard line drives in BP, best contact is to opposite field gap. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed average hands at third base, arm played at 76 mph across the diamond. 7.47 runner in the 60.

Tanner Kohlhepp, INF/RHP, Eau Claire Memorial, 2018
6-foot-2, 165-pound left-handed hitting two-way player, long lean frame, highly projectable, loose limbed. Offensively hits from a tall balanced setup, quiet approach, loose hands with short path to the baseball and good hand eye. Showed ability to drive the baseball to the gap in game, finished 3-for-7 with a double, triple and three RBI, flashing pull side pop, 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively shows ability to move to multiple infield positions, may end up projecting best at third base, hands are soft and moves well laterally, arm carries with athleticism and ability to release on the move (84 mph across the infield. 7.39 runner in the 60, gets out of the box well, several home to first times ranging 4.43-4.51. On the mound delivery starts with rocker foot forward, short rocker step to balance, gets down the hill with tempo. Arm action is loose and live, ¾ slot, high ceiling on the mound. Fastball sat at 86-87 mph with sink to arm side. Complements it with wipe out slider at 75-77 mph, sharp lateral action that gets swing and miss, struck out two in one inning with slider.

Outfielders

Jordan Bailey, OF, Janesville Parker, 2018
6-foot, 180-pound left/left outfielder, lean athletic frame with projection. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, path stays on top of the baseball and sprayed line drives all over the yard on workout day. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed fluid actions in the outfield, tracks balls well and plays through the baseball while gaining ground. 7.1 runner in the 60. Arm plays from a high ¾ slot, long arm action plays at 86 mph from the outfield.

Ty Olejnik, OF, Hamilton Sussex, 2018
Physically impressive 6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder, lean strong build, plus frame. Highly toolsy prospect, put up one of the best stat lines at the Future Games. Plus runner, 6.54 in the 60, laser timed, 4.26 down the line on a turn. Defensively can stick in centerfield, potential plus defender, moves with easy action in the outfield. Arm action is loose, above average strength, 88 mph from a crowhop. Left-handed bat hits from a balanced stance, leg kick trigger, loose hands. Tools suggest power potential from his bat, 96 mph exit velocity from the tee.  

Gunner Peterson, OF, Wilmot, 2018
6-foot-1, 180-pound left-handed hitting outfielder, lean athletic frame. Left-handed bat has upside, barrel aware, disciplined approach, good hand eye. Bat path stays on top of the baseball, line drive approach with the ability to backspin the baseball, gap to gap approach. Hands work extremely well to generate bat speed, 97 mph exit velocity from the tee. 6.95 runner in the 60. Well above average corner outfield defender, possible centerfielder, actions play through the baseball in stride. Arm plays over the top, 86 mph.

Alan Roden, OF, Middleton, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder, solid build. Quiet setup, consistently takes quality at bats. Bat plays well, hits from a balanced stance, short stride. Pull side approach with some pop, bat path is level and stays through the hitting zone. 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Average runner (7.15) but plays up in game, makes great reads both in the outfield and on the bases, gets out of the box well, 4.19 down the line on an infield single, also got a 4.33 down the line previously on a ground out. Excellent route runner, well above average corner outfield defender. Arm played at 82 mph from the outfield.
