PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week: C Dominic Kibler

By: Diego Solares

Throughout last year’s entire circuit, C Dominic Kibler (New Berlin West, 2023; Kent State) cemented himself as one of the state’s top junior prospects. Kibler wields a loud left-handed bat, routinely making loud contact off the barrel with advanced bat-to-ball skills for his age, and he currently sits at 13th overall on our updated rankings for the state’s 2023 class.

Kibler’s talents have been evident throughout the spring for New Berlin West, as he’s been a force nestled in the middle of this Vikings’ lineup. Kibler’s well on his way to earn all-conference honors in the Woodlands West conference and his loudest stretch of the year may have come last week, paving the way for ‘Player of the Week’ honors.

Kibler started the week out with an absolute offensive onslaught, bashing two home runs and driving in six runs total. He got New Berlin West on the board with a two-run shot in the third inning, following that up with a grand slam in the fourth. He finished that game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, drawing a walk and scoring three times while plating six on two swings. Kibler followed that up with two more hits out of the three-hole on Tuesday, including a double.

The Kent State commit left the yard again on Wednesday, as his lone hit of the Vikings’ tight-knit win over Brown Deer was a three-run blast to right field in the fourth inning. Kibler didn’t record a hit on Friday in a 10-0 win over Milwaukee Lutheran, but he did reach base via walk, and picked up another knock on Saturday against St. Thomas More, scoring a run and drawing a walk to cap off his week. He finished this five-game stretch 7-for-14 with three home runs, a double, nine RBIs, and five walks.

Kibler’s success throughout 2021 earned him an invitation to the Future Games, where he represented Team Wisconsin as one of the top offensive performers at the event. He was recently ranked the top overall prospect in attendance at our West Milwaukee Preseason ID, where our scouts had this to say about him:

Dominic Kibler C / New Berlin West, WI / 2023

From 2/19/22: “This weekend was the first time we’ve seen Kibler since he committed to Kent State, shortly after the backstop represented Team Wisconsin at the PBR Future Games in August. There, Kibler cemented himself as a top left-handed hitter in the state’s junior class, and he's reasserted that notion over the offseason. Kibler maintained his lengthy track record of making impact contact on Saturday of the ball, reaching a 98.1 mph max exit velocity while averaging 92 mph off the barrel. He improved defensively as well, popping a 2.00 at his best to the bag with a 76 mph high. Kibler looks like he’s well on his way to being an all-league bat at the college level.”

For his efforts, Kibler has been named the PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week, for the eighth week of WIAA action, ranging from Monday, May 16 to Sunday, May 22. We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
