PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week: RHP Caden Capomaccio

Over the past two years, RHP Caden Capomaccio (Notre Dame Academy, 2022; Minnesota) has solidified his status as one of the state’s upper-tier prospects. He’s regularly produced upper-80s velocity with his fastball to our scouts, breaching the 90 mph mark multiple times and registering as high as 92 mph when we’ve seen him. Capomaccio also features a lethal swing-and-miss breaking ball in his arsenal, as well as a developing changeup to pair.

This past week, Capomaccio proved his worth on both sides of the ball, helping Notre Dame Academy win three games in the process and earning himself our ‘Player of the Week’ honors. His productiveness started in a 6-1 victory over Green Bay Southwest on Monday, where he doubled out of the leadoff spot and scored a run, finishing the game with two hits.

Capomaccio’s loudest performance came in a 12-1 win on Tuesday, where he paced the Tritons’ offensively with three more hits and two runs scored out of the lineup’s top spot, including a stolen base. He drew the start on the mound as well, giving up only one hit across five innings of work, punching out 12 and walking only three, failing to allow an earned run.

He put the finishing touches on an impressive week with two additional knocks in game three, driving in two runs and scoring twice on his own, all while stealing a pair of bags in the win. In total, Capomaccio finished the week 7-for-12 at the plate with four RBIs, three stolen bases, and seven runs scored, while adding 12 punchouts on the mound across five scoreless innings.

Our last look at Capomaccio came this winter, when he traveled down to Chicago for the IL/WI Preseason ProCase. Capomaccio was amongst the top arms in attendance, and our scouts had this to say about his ‘pen following the event:

Caden Capomaccio RHP / Notre Dame Academy, WI / 2022

“Athletic 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame. Strung together an impressive ‘pen with an improved four-pitch mix. Rhythmic drop/drive type delivery, athletic lower half downhill, rotates well onto a strong lead leg block at footstrike. Maintains direction to target, controlled finish. Fastball sat 91-92 mph with life into the upper quadrant of the zone, strikes. Continues to display advanced feel for a sharp 81-83 mph slider with tight spin off an 11/5 plane that’s thrown at arm speed and played in the zone; peaked at 2,600-plus rpm. Added a 76-78 mph knuckle curveball with 12/6 shape and depth that enhances arsenal, allowing Capomaccio to spin vertically and laterally. Completes his mix with a firm 83-87 mph changeup, kills spin and works from a similar slot to fastball, peaked at 16.3 inches of horizontal movement. Continues to solidify himself as a top-tier arm in Wisconsin’s senior class.”

For his efforts, Capomaccio has been named the PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week, for the first two weeks of WIAA action, ranging from Monday, April 25 to Sunday, May 1. We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
