RHP Parker Detmers (Chatham, 2023; Louisville) led the Decatur Commodores to a 9-0 win on Friday. A top 10 prospect in Illinois's 2023 class, Detmers showed a high pitchability with an 86-88 mph fastball, topping at 89 mph and a plus for age curveball at 72-74 mph.

RHP Thomas Burns (Hortonville, 2023) struck out 11 over six innings pitched, leading CBT to a 6-2 win over Elite Baseball Training. Burns is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-hander who sat 83-87, touching 88 mph with a curveball that flashed depth at 69-72 mph. Burns also helped his own cause going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Top Tier Americans ran away with an easy 14-1 win over ESP Select American. C AJ Malzone (St. Rita, 2023) led the way with three hits in three at bays including a home run to right field. RHP Tommy Haggerty (Homewood-Flossmoor, 2023) got the win, dominating mainly with an 83-85 mph fastball.

Athlete HQ defeated BLG Replacements 9-1, backed by a great outing from RHP Colin Miller (Hampshire, 2023). The long, lanky righty held BLG scoreless during his five innings on the mound. Throughout his outing Miller sat 82-85 mph and topped at 86 mph on his fastball. His curveball had sharp 11/5 break and sat 64-66 mph.

Top Tier North 16u defeated STiKS Red 16U 8-3. C Damon Brena (Niles West, 2023) went 2-for-3 with a home run to dead center field, a double, and three RBIs. OF Vinnie Marvucic (Niles West, 2023) added to the offense going 2-for-3 with a double, single, and two RBIs.

MVP Elite Baseball 2023 Brown defeated Chicago Elite Billo 2023, 6-5. MVP Elite jumped out to a big lead early, scoring five runs in the first inning, highlighted by doubles from both Christian Seminaro (Mundelein, IL, 2023) and Nolan Scheutz (Lake Zurich, IL, 2023), as well as a single from left-handed hitter Bennett Lehman (Lake Zurich, IL, 2023). Lehman later recorded another hit, as well as another RBI on a sacrifice fly, a big strong frame to follow this weekend.

ISA Stars Black 2023 defeated ESP Select Americans 2023, 8-7. INF Landon Lozier (Notre Dame Academy, 2023,WI) recorded the walkoff hit in this one, barreling a double to deep right center field to plate the winning run for his team. Lozier put together quality at bats all day, including another double to lead off the bottom of the first. Alex Rottier (Notre Dame Academy, WI, 2023) had a clutch three-run double in the fifth inning to retake the lead for ISA at the time.

Great Lakes Baseball 2023 defeated Decatur Commodores 16U, 3-2. LHP Andrew Rakow (Champlin Park, MN, 2023) shined on the mound, going six strong innings, giving up no runs and only one hit, striking out 12 batters. Rakow featured a fastball ranging from 83-85 mph, topping at 86 mph. Rakow pounded the strike zone all day with his heater, blowing it by hitters consistently and missing lots of bats, as his spin rate on his fastball topped at 2461 rpm. Rakow also featured a straight changeup at 76-78 mph, and utilized it as a change of speeds to keep hitters on their toes, playing well off his hard fastball. He also featured a curveball that played to a 1/7 shape, ranging from 71-74 mph and a spin rate that topped at 2297 rpm that flashed sharp depth. He occasionally mixed in a slider at 70 mph and 2189 rpm. Rakow had a feel for each of his pitches, getting outs with each whether it was weak contact or finishing batters himself. A high level prospect to follow moving forward.

Our first slot of the day featured a tight-knit, competitive contest between PTA Cardinal and Illinois Premier that saw a quality comeback effort from PTA. Down by three early, the Cardinal put up a four-spot in the fourth inning and padded their lead with three runs in the sixth. 1B Michael Comber (Verona Area, 2023) and OF Nathan Cumberbatch (Shorewood, 2023) each doubled and finished with two hits apiece. We got another look at RHP Leo Berger (Rufus King, 2023), as the long-limbed right-hander impressed again, working in relief. Berger got the ball in the seventh, sitting 82-85 mph with his fastball, touching 86 mph for the save. For Illinois Premier, OF Luke Wallace (Lemont, 2023) homered out of the leadoff spot and finished with two hits.

The 5 Star Great Lakes Chiefs team in attendance tied its first game, 2-2, with Slammers-Coyote and won its second game against a talented Windy City Black squad, 3-2, behind an excellent pitching performance from LHP/OF Kevin Corcoran (Illiana Christian, 2023). He struck out nine in six innings, and allowed just one earned run on six hits, two walks, sitting 77-80 mph but reaching back for 82-83 at times, mostly earlier in the ballgame. SS Josh Adamczewski (Lake Central, IN, 2023) went 3-for-7 combined on Thursday, swinging a loose and fluid left-handed bat with some budding, wiry strength. Adamczewski also looked confident and athletic manning shortstop, with natural infield actions and above-average arm strength. The 5 Star Chiefs have several more prospects inside this lineup that we’ll be keying in on this weekend as well.

GRB Rays 16U Yellow jumped out to a strong start on the weekend by winning their first game in shutout fashion, backed by strong outings from RHP Tiago Sanchez (Madison West, 2023) and LHP Carson Dupois (Edgerton, 2023). Sanchez got the start and went five no-hit innings, striking out seven. Dupois relieved and completed the game with two strong, K’ing three and allowing just one hit. MIF Caden Popp (Appleton North, 2023) homered for GRB in the win.

Starting their weekend out on a positive, the Central Illinois Outlaws 16U squad won game one 13-6. OF Elliot Seckman (Washington, 2023) led them with three hits offensively and he drove in three runs, too. Out of the two-hole, OF Aidan Fulton (Illinois Valley Central, 2023) doubled and totaled two hits, driving in two. MIF Graham Malcolm (Dunlap, 2023) and CIF Logan Justus (Midwest Central, 2023) both doubled and drove in runs as well. For Edge, INF Aiden Haack (Verona Area, 2023) had three hits out of the leadoff spot.

The Naperville Renegades won their first game of the day in close fashion, squeaking by 2-1 behind an impressive outing from RHP Gabe Dickerson (Naperville Central, 2023). The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Dickerson went the distance, striking out nine and allowing his only run of the game in the final inning.

We finished our day with a pretty competitive game between Naperville Renegades and NEO Elite that resulted in a 2-1 walk-off victory for NEO. With two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning, switch-hitter C/2B Christian Knight (Painesville Riverside, 2023; Ohio) slapped one down the left field line for a game-winning double. CIF Bryce Gilman (Wickliffe, 2023; Ohio) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for NEO. Despite the loss, RHP AJ McEneany (Neuqua Valley, 2023) dominated in his start for the Renegades. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound right-hander went 5.2 innings of one-hit ball, striking out 11.

Backed by INF Vidal Colon (University School, 2023) and RHP/INF Presley Wachowiak (Catholic Memorial, 2023) the Midwest Halos won their only game of the day, 8-4. Both Colon and Wachowiak homered; the latter sending his deep into the left-center gap early on while the former’s gave them a lead late in the game. 1B AJ Rieck (Catholic Memorial, 2023) and OF Keegan Bracke (Brookfield East, 2023) each had two hits in the win as well.
