Power 25 Update: Week 8

As we get closer to the playoffs things are heating up and many of the perennial powerhouses are playing their best baseball. In particular Sun Prairie has beaten the No. 1 team in the Power 25 each of the last two weeks. Here's a look at this week's Power 25.

Inside The Top Five

Arrowhead improved to 21-1 on the year with an impressive week including wins over No. 6 Oshkosh North and No. 14 Kenosha Tremper. This puts the Warhawks back atop the Power 25.

No. 2 Janesville Craig lost their first game of the year on Tuesday, dropping a 6-2 contest to the scorching hot Sun Prairie Cardinals of late. The Cougars are now 21-1 and atop the Big Eight Conference.

Bay Port rebounded with three wins this week after a loss to Sun Prairie last week. The Pirates are now 20-3 and sit a No. 3 in the state.

Kimberly improved to 18-4 on the year and up to No. 4 with a win over No. 11 Appleton North last week. The Papermakers are atop the Fox Valley Association, arguable the toughest conference in the state.

Denmark holds ground in the top five at No. 5. With a sweep of Shawano this week, the Vikings are 19-2 with a pitching staff primed for a playoff run.

New And Climbing

Moving up to No. 6, Sun Prairie handed Janesville Craig their only loss of the season on Tuesday. They split the week to both Janesville teams, beating Craig on Tuesday and losing to Parker on Thursday. For the Cardinals the win over Janesville Craig finished off a run of three straight wins over No. 12 Kenosha Bradford, No. 1 Bay Port and No. 1 Janesville Craig.

No. 25 Stevens Point got back into the Power 25 with a 4-1 week beating DeForest and a split with Ashwaubenon.

Down And Out

Slipping three spots to No. 9, Oshkosh North had a tough week with three games against Power 25 teams, No. 22 Freedom, No. 11 Appleton North and No. 2 Arrowhead. After beating Freedom on Monday the Spartans fell to both Appleton North and Arrowhead.

The Jefferson Eagles also dropped two games this week move to 19-5 and No. 13 in the Power 25.

Waterford took two losses this week to Kenosha Indian Trail and Burlington and dropped to No. 20 in the state.
