Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

The Preseason I.D. Showcase at McHenry is in the books and over the last week or so we rolled out positional analysis on the event. Yesterday, we concluded our position analysis by taking a look at the top pitchers. Today we conclude our coverage of the McHenry event by taking a look at the Top Prospects from the event.

TOP OVERALL Prospects

1. Matt McCumber, RHP, Cary Grove, 2017
Northern Illinois commit. Currently ranked No. 49 in the Illinois class of 2017. Works from an over the top arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery, working in line with home plate. Square landing with smooth rhythm and regular effort. High front side at balance point. Had the best fastball at the event sitting 84-86 topping out at 87 mph. Showed feel for his curveball that has 12-6 shape with gradual action at 64-67 mph for strikes. Changeup sat 66-67 mph.
