Preseason Power 25 Countdown: No. 3 Kenosha Tremper

The Wisconsin high school season kicks off on March 29, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on March 21, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

X-FACTOR
Justin LaveySenior 3B Justin Lavey was a First Team All-Conference selection last season, as well as third team all-state. Lavey, a Louisville commit, hit .423 last year and will again be the main offensive threat for the Trojans as well as locking down the hot corner.

OUTLOOK
Keith KutzlerThe pitching staff should lead the way for the Trojans this season. Senior starters Jacob DeLabio and Keith Kutzler are both signed with Division 1 schools and Junior LHP Andrew Freiberg is coming off an impression sophomore campaign where he  went 6-0 with a 1.31 ERA. Also, keep an eye on Mitchell Buban to see time onthe mound. The lanky junior has been working out on th emound this winter and seen his fastball sit 85-87 on multiple occasions.

Justin Lavey leads the offense, hitting .423 last season, Jacob DeLabioand is one of the more feared hitters in the state. Juniors Mitchell Buban and Hunter Weddel both hit over .300 last year on varsity. Senior Jeff Steuck will have to step up this year and provide some more protection for Lavey in the lineup. The Trojans are primed for their first Southeast title since 2008 and will battle it out with Indian Trail for the title in 2016, as the teams meet for three games this year.
