Keagen Jirschele (7/27/22)

+ MIF/RHP Keagen Jirschele (2024) is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the Badger State’s 2024 class, Jirschele made a name for himself after being a standout performer at the 2022 PBR Future Games this past summer. Standing at a sturdy 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame, Jirschele has a knack for finding the barrel in almost every at bat. Despite not having extreme power, the righty generates base hits with a smooth swing, paired with quiet hands and a whippy barrel, which got a hit in all three games in Georgia. Jirschele is the perfect player to place at the top of any order, as his ability to reach base and utilize his speed on the base paths, as he’s run a 6.82 60-yard dash, makes him a threat to opposing defenses no matter where he's at on offense. It doesn’t end there for the junior though, as Jirschele comes back as the ace of this Mosinee pitching staff. As a sophomore, Jirschele finished 6-3 on the mound, and features a mid-80s fastball in his mix of strikes that he can throw.

IMPACT UNDERCLASSMAN

RHP Ethan Oatman (@MosineeBaseball, 2025) is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect with a loose, easy arm that really projects. Sat 77-79 mph with hard run, strikes. Feel for a CB and CH to complete a starter profile.

+ RHP Ethan Oatman (2025) features a projectable frame that is continuing to build as a developing prospect in the 2025 class. Oatman has a solid base at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, and caught our attention as a pitcher over the 2022 summer circuit. On the bump, Oatman has a loose arm and gets to his balance point consistently, allowing him to effortlessly repeat his delivery. With a fastball, changeup, and curveball mix, Oatman features a starter profile that can get outs at the varsity level. The fastball reached 79 mph during this past summer, while the changeup and curveball were quality complements in his pitch repertoire. Oatman will be a key piece to the depth of this Mosinee pitching staff throughout the 2023 season.

OUTLOOK

Mosinee finally broke through in the Division 2 playoffs last season, earning themselves a Sectional championship, and ending their season at the state tournament. Despite coming up  short of a state championship last season, head coach Adam Olson, in his 10th season, and the Indians have high hopes for 2023, as they reload with a group of prospects that led them to a 26-4 record in 2022.

Offensively, the tone is set by Jirschele, who hit .424 as a sophomore last season at the top of the order. Jirschele is a table-setter for the rest of this lineup, which features power and speed. 

1B Davin Stoffel (2023; South Dakota State, football), standing at a physical 6-foot-6, 215 pounds, is one of the top seniors on this team, and had the highest batting average last season, hitting .432. Not only is he one of the best players on Mosinee, but he’s also highly touted in the Great Northern Conference and beyond. The star 3-sport athlete will be a key pitcher for the Indians as well, coming off of a 2022 where he went 4-0 on the mound.

Batting near him will be C Gavin Obremski (2024), a quality prospect who we recently saw at the Madison Preseason ID a few weeks ago. Obremski, featuring a strong 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, will be the backstop and a switch-hitting power presence for this Mosinee squad. From both sides of the plate, Obremski has a quiet presence in the box, displaying a violent swing that generates max exit velocities in the low-90s.

OF Taylor Lemanski (2024) and OF Blake Nichols (2023) will both add onto the depth and production of this Mosinee lineup, manning the outfield positions. Each outfielder had success in 2022, and look to take their play to the next level to help the Indians make a run at the state tournament, an area where depth and key contributors is necessary to raise the gold trophy.

To complete the outfield, OF/RHP Garrett Shupe (2024) is another prospect who’s play will determine how successful Mosinee is in 2023. Shupe, a two-way player, stands at a projectable 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. We recently saw him elevate his max fastball velocity at the Madison Preseason ID, where he reached 86 mph on the mound, using his length and repeatable delivery to consistently throw strikes. Adding in a changeup and curveball, Shupe has the ingredients to be an ace on this pitching staff, as he finished 7-1 for the Indians last season.

In addition to the upperclassmen, completing this lineup will be underclassmen in Oatman and INF Brady Lokken (2025), who will be asked to fill larger roles as sophomores in comparison to their freshman years, where each got a slight taste of the varsity field. 

BOTTOM LINE

The Indians are one of the top contenders for the Division 2 state championship in 2023, as they return a strong and deep pitching staff, along with a lineup that can put up video-game like numbers in a hurry. Having their star players perform in the clutch offensively and defensively, along with other role players will be essential, as this Indians squad does not feature many weaknesses heading into the fresh season.
