Recruiting Roudup: Who's Heading Where?

Matt McCarty, RHP, South Milwaukee, 2016
University of Louisville

Matt McCarty2/8/15 - 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed pitcher, typical pitchers build, projects well, big athletic frame. Tall and fall style delivery, works cleanly down the hill, stays directional, athletic finish. Arm action is loose, ¾ slot, regular effort. Fastball has hard late action, good run and finish through zone, filled it up well, showed the ability to command it, 85-87 mph. Slider has sweep, 10/4 action, occasionally got around it, 73-76 mph, good compliment to fastball. Changeup has good arm side action, fastball arm speed, good deception, 75-77 mph. McCarty projects well on the mound, his sturdy pitchers frame bodes well for him and has solid three pitch feel of the zone.

Nolan Schoonveld, RHP, Middleton, 2015
Hamline University

Nolan Schoonveld3/16/14 - 6-foot-3, 170-pound athletic, lanky, two-way player. On the mound his delivery has easy effort, smooth rhythm, upright finish. Arm works long, quick, low ¾ slot. Fastball showed run and sink, sitting 80-83 mph. Changeup is thrown with fastball arm speed, 72-75 mph with sink, for strikes. Curveball was 71-73 mph, on one plane. At third base he showed solid hands, clean exchanges, and plays through it athletically. Arm works short, from high ¾ slot, 78 mph with accuracy. Posted a 4.33 home to first time. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance, short stride, strong lower half, quality balance through contact. Line drive type swing with fluid rhythm, above average bat speed. Exit velocity was 79 mph off the tee.

Chad Herbst, SS, McFarland, 2015
Winona State

Chad Herbst10/11/14 - Lean athletic shape, 6-foot, 170-pound middle infielder, highly projectable frame. Ran the 60 at 7.04. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, smooth loading action, short stride, excellent balance through contact. Quiet setup, keeps head level, sees ball well. Quick twitch hands, lets the ball travel well, above average bat speed for his class. Line drive type hitter, gap to gap approach. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed athleticism, clean actions, hands showed some feel. Arm action is loose, high ¾ slot, carried across the diamond, 82 mph.
