WISCONSIN RAPIDS – With a birth to the State Tournament in Appleton on the line, SPASH and Hudson locked horns for the right to move on. Hudson coming off a thrilling victory in an exhausting 12 innings, and Stevens Point who had to sit and watch the three hour plus nail biter in the less than average weather conditions.

Neither team got off to the offensive start they hoped for as both starting pitchers worked a perfect first inning.

The first inning proved to be the only blemish on the Panther scoreboard as SPASH would relentlessly hit their way to the State Tournament with a speedy 11-1 victory in four and a half innings.

Stevens Point starter, junior Austin Schulfer shut down the Raider offense working five innings, allowing just one run and three hits.

The Panthers started their scoring in the second stringing together four base hits in a row, including a big two run single by senior Pat Perner.

The onslaught continued in the third when senior Sterling King launched a two run dinger to right to make the score 6-0.

Stevens Point would finish off the Raiders in the fourth with five runs on six hits. A double by senior Kevin Slezak was the big blow of the inning. Cal Giese capped it off ripping a base hit up the middle to make it 11-1.

Schulfer would make quick work of the Raiders in the fifth getting Miles Lewis to line out to second and commence the dog pile on the mound.

SPASH will head to State with a 23-4 record and a 1-2 punch on the mound with Cal Giese and Austin Schulfer that will command plenty of attention in Appleton. Watch out for the Panthers.
