Senior Games Milwaukee: Infield Analysis

The Senior Games - Mississippi Valley is less than a week away, and leading up to the event we will be rolling out our analysis of the Senior Games - Milwaukee this week.

We continue the analysis with the top infield prospects from the event. Oklahoma commit Anthony Schlass (West Bend West) took the top spot showing off a strong arm across the infield and plus bat speed. NIU commit Alex Rodriguez (Cudahy) comes in at No. 2 showing off smooth actions in the infield.

A group of athletic uncommitted infielders take the next few spots. Matt Korman (Waterford Union) showed a solid all around tool set in workouts. Jonathan Dominguez (Catholic Memorial) had a big game with a triple in game and also showed his biggest upside on the mound. Tanner Williams (Arrowhead) showed well in workouts following a big season for the Warhawks this past spring. Jason Abatto (Kettle Moraine) had a big day at the plate hitting two doubles in the left centerfield gap in game.

Other notables were James Winters (Waukesha North), Alex Tricoli-Walkanoff (Indian Trail), Griff Lukes (Hartford Union), and Drew Johnson (Kimberly).

Top Infield Prospects

1. Anthony Schlass, MIF, West Bend West, 2017
Oklahoma commit. Physical 5-foot-11, 185-pound left-handed hitting infielder. Hits from a balanced stance, short toe tap stride, quiet setup, maintains strong balance. Explosive bat speed, physical hitter, path is uphill with pull side contact. Loud contact in BP, showed pull side power, bat strength, 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively moved well, plays through the baseball, 4.43 runner down the line, showed body control and ability to release on the move. Arm action has length, 86 mph across the diamond.

2. Alex Rodriguez, SS, Cudahy, 2017
Northern Illinois commit. Compact frame, 5-foot-7, 150-pound middle infielder. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride back to even, good balance. Hands are loose, fast bat, short path to the baseball, line drive approach, on time and on barrel. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed soft hands, plays through the baseball with active footwork, natural middle infielder. Arm action is short, over the top slot, 81 mph across the diamond. 4.58 runner down the line.

3. Matt Korman, SS, Waterford Union, 2017
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a lanky, athletic frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick stride and good balance. Line drive gap-to-gap hitter with a level swing path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.58 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Accurate throws across the infield throwing 81 mph. Athletic actions playing thru the ball with soft hands and fluid footwork.

4. Jonathan Dominguez, SS/RHP, Catholic Memorial, 2017
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting SS/RHP with a lanky, athletic frame. Had a big day on the mound at the event. Works from a ¾ arm angle with a loose, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with smooth rhythm and easy effort. Fastball showed running action at 86-87 mph. Curveball shows swing and miss potential with 10-4 shape and sharp breaking action at 76-79 mph for strikes. Changeup had sinking action 76-80 mph. He struck out two in his inning of work. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.60 runner down the line. In game hit a triple to the fence in left center field. Defensively has a loose arm action from a ¾ slot. Athletic actions with fluid footwork and a clean exchange. Threw 78 mph across the infield.

5. Tanner Williams, SS/RHP, Arrrowhead, 2017
6-foot-3, 170-pound left-handed hitting SS/RHP with a lanky, projectable frame. At the plate hits from an open stance with an arm bar load and long stride. Pull hitter with an uphill swing path and a fast bat. Bat stays in zone for a while. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively has a short, loose arm action from a ¾ slot. Hands work well with good body control. Threw 81 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a long, loose arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with some rhythm. Fastball flashed running action at 79-81 topping out at 83 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with gradual action at 65-67 mph. Changeup sat 78 mph.

6. Jason Abatto, 2B, Kettle Moraine, 2017
5-foot-8, 165-pound left-handed hitting second baseman with a small, strong frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride. Line drive gap to gap hitter with a short swing path and strength in the hands. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.68 runner down the line. Went 2-3 in game with two doubles and two RBIs. Peppered the left centerfield gap in game. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Average hands and body control. Threw 75 mph across the infield.

7. James Winters, MIF, Waukesha North, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound middle infielder, strong lower half, athletic shape, projects for added strength. Defensively arm action is short from a high ¾ slot, accurate across the diamond with carry (81 mph), played athletically with body control. Exchange is clean, plays through the baseball, good actions, reliable hands. 4.47 runner down the line. Right-handed hitter, taller setup, short stride, average balance. Loose hands, bat speed present, short path to the baseball. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee.

8. Alex Tricoli-Walkanoff, 2B, Indian Trail, 2017
5-foot-11, 180-pound middle infielder, carries present strength. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, good balance. Looks hitterish in the box, well above average bat speed, pull side line drive contact, athletic hitter. 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.65 runner down the line. Defensively showed solid hands, deliberate footwork. Arm played at 82 mph across the diamond, high ¾ slot.

9. Griff Lukes, 3B, Hartford Union, 2017
6-foot-1, 190-pound third baseman, carries some present strength. Right-handed hitter, open stance, leg kick stride, average balance. Front foot hitter, showed bat speed, 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is showed some length and carry, 79 mph across the diamond. Solid body control, ability to come get the baseball. 4.68 runner down the line.

10. Drew Johnson, 3B, Kimberly, 2017
5-foot-10, 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. At the plate hits from a tall setup with a deep load to backside and toe tap stride. Fast bat with good feel for the barrel. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.78 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws throwing 73 mph across the infield.

Alex Behr, LHP/1B, Oak Creek, 2017
6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed hitting LHP/1B. On the mound works form a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall slow paced delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball sat 73-75 mph. Curveball and slider show same action. Curveball sat 61-62 mph and slider was thrown harder at 63-66 mph. At the plate hits from an upright stance with a short heel lift stride and early rhythm. Short, uphill swing path with choppy rhythm. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.86 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action, throw68 mph across the infield.

Nicholas Destefanis, SS, Homestead, 2017
6-foot, 179-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from a wide base with a short stride and average balance. Line drive pull hitter with an uphill swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.58 runner down the line.  Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Threw 74 mph across the infield.

Dylan Fluegel, SS/RHP, Oak Creek, 2017
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting SS/RHP. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot with a long exchange. Throws showed carry throwing 80 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced, open setup with an arm bar load and long stride. Line drive hitter with a long, level swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.74 runner down the line. Went 1-2 in game with a single. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a toe closed landing. Fastball was straight at 78-79 topping out at 80 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape with gradual action at 66-68 mph. Threw a knuckleball at 69-70 mph.

Peyton Henry, OF/INF/RHP, Columbus, 2017
6-foot-2, 185-pound multi-positional player, athletic build with lean strength. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, lower half works. Line drive type hitter, showed bat speed and timing. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays at 83 mph from the outfield, 81 mph across the infield, short over the top slot. Projets best in the outfield. 4.61 runner down the line. On the mound arm played over the top, regular effort. Fastball played 76-79 mph. Curveball is 12/6, 64-66 mph. Flashed a changeup at 70 mph.

Joshua Hock, SS/RHP, Notre Dame Academy, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound two-way player, average athletic shape. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick trigger. Path works around the baseball some, 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Went 2-for-2 in game with a pair of singles, 4.43 runner down the line. Defensively arm action is short and over the top, 80 mph across the diamond. Footwork can get more aggressive through the baseball. On the mound arm worked similarly. Fastball is straight at 81-82 mph, showed ability to pound the zone. Changeup has sink, thrown aggressively with fastball arm speed, 73-74 mph, good sinking action with feel for the zone, got a swing and miss strikeout on it.

Ross Krist, 3B/C, Sheboygan Falls, 2017
6-foot-3, 170-pounds, lanky frame, some projection. Left-handed hitter, tall open setup, short stride to square, solid balance. Average bat speed, short path with timing, 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.50 runner down the line. Defensively posted 2.21-2.26 pop times. Arm plays short and over the top, 72 mph out of the crouch, 67 mph across the infield. Plays upright on the infield, average hands.

Nathan Krueger, SS, Florence, 2017
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a lanky, athletic frame. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws throwing 74 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a long stride and average balance. Long swing path with stiff rhythm. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.69 runner down the line.

Luke Kundinger, SS/RHP, Waukesha West, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, squared setup, short stride, loads hands back. Path has some length, average bat speed, 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. Singled in game play. Defensively exchange is quick and clean, showed an ability to play through the baseball. Arm plas from a high ¾ slot, 81 mph across the diamond. 4.60 runner down the line. On the mound arm worked loosely from similar slot. Fastball has slight arm side run, 79-81 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, 71-73 mph.

Eric Obst, RHP/SS, Waukesha West, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound two-way player, solid build. On the mound arm action is short and over the top, regular effort. Fastball is straight, four seam type, 78-80 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 67-68 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, taller setup, bat waggle load. Pull side approach, uphill bat path. 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.76 runner down the line. Defensively exchange is long, glove pat to release, plays it deep at times. Arm plays at 76 mph across the diamond.

Parker Panich, 1B, Marquette University, 2017
6-foot-2, 230-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. At the plate hits from a tall, narrow setup with a long stride. Sinks into load with a short, uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. 5.15 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top arm slot. Threw 72 mph across the infield.

Jacob Passow, 1B, Germantown, 2017
6-foot-, 185-pound first-baseman, lanky frame. Right-handed hitter, wider setup, short stride, average balance. Pull side approach in BP, made line drive contact, raw hit tool with upside. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, 81 mph across the diamond. Showed feel around the bag. 4.80 runner down the line.

Michael Pillizzi, 2B, Kenosha Bradford, 2017
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. At the plate hits form a balanced setup with a leg lift stride and fair balance. Pull hitter with a long swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. 5.04 runner down the line. Went 1-2 in game with an RBI single. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Clean exchange with average hands. Threw 71 mph across the infield.

Nathan Renner, RHP/1B, Kenosha Tremper, 2017
6-foot-2, 215-pound right-handed two-way player. On the mound arm action is short and over the top. Delivery is compact with tempo, works online down the hill. Fastball has finish through the zone, arm side action, 79-82 mph, touched 83 mph. Overhand curveball, short action. Changeup is straight with slight sink, 77 mph. Right-handed hitter, even setup, short stride. Path lacked extension, pull side approach, 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. Double in game driving in two runs. 5.19 runner down the line. Defensively arm action is short and over the top 71 mph across the diamond. Showed feel around the bag at first base.

Bryce Schure, 3B/RHP, Muskego, 2017
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting 3B/RHP. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with average hands and good body control. Threw 79 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a deep load and wrap. Pull hitter. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.64 runner down the line. On the mound works from an over the top slot with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball showed slight running action at 80-82 topping out at 83 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape at 73 mph. Changeup sat 73 mph.

Jayson Walczak, 2B, Oak Creek, 2017
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with an arm bar load and long keg kick stride. Long, uphill swing path with a fast bat. Generates good pop for his size. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.76 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Average arm strength with soft hands. Threw 73 mph across the infield.

Nathan White, 3B, Union Grove, 2017
5-foot-11, 190-pound corner infielder, thick build. Right-handed hitter, squared wide setup, average balance. Path has length, sprayed contact to all fields, slightly uphill path. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played over the top, 65 mph across the diamond. Deliberate actions, made routine plays, 4.93 runner down the line.

RJ Woppert, SS, Verona Area, 2017
6-foot-1, 180-pound switch hitting shortstop. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Short, slightly uphill swing path with fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee both right and left handed. 4.35 runner down the line. Defensively has a long stiff arm action from an over the top arm slot. Threw 74 mph across the infield.
