Simon Rosenblum-Larson putting academics high on his list

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin/Illinois

Simon Rosenblum-Larson (Madison West, 2015) made the Midwest Future Games roster after his performance earlier in June 2013 at the Midwest Future Game Tryout. He has a long loose arm action that works extremely clean, free and easy. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound right handed pitcher has a lot of projection in front of him. All three of his pitches already flash advanced action and control with work to be added to each. Rosenblum-Larson might have one of the highest ceilings in Wisconsin’s Class of 2015.

At the Midwest Futures Games his fastball velocity might not have matched other top prospects at 81-83 mph but he was battling on and off mononucleosis symptoms for most of the summer. As he continues to mature and fill out his frame he will be an interesting prospect to follow. On top of his high ceiling Rosenblum-Larson is also a high academic prospect which should open plenty of more doors for him.

Rosenblum-Larson might be one of the highest academic student-athletes in the state and is looking forward to continuing his studies at a challenging academic university. When asked what he is looking for at the next level, he said.

“I am looking for a very strong academic school that gives me the opportunity to play against the best competition possible while being challenged in the classroom. The most important part of a college to me is the academic aspect because of the aspirations I have beyond college academically. Be it Division 1 or Division 3, my final college decision will be made based on the merits of the school academically rather than athletically.”

According to Rosenblum-Larson he has been in contact with Duke, Air Force, Columbia University, Illinois State and Oakland University. He has already visited Duke and Northwestern and hopes to visit University of Chicago soon as well.

Last spring Rosenblum-Larson led the Madison West pitching staff in nearly every pitching related stat. He had an ERA hovering right around 2.00 and pitched 46 innings with 52 strikeouts and gave up only 39 hits. He earned Second Team All-Conference in the Big 8 and First Team All-City in Madison.

Only two starters will return from the 2013 squad which will make for a young offensive lineup. The success of the 2014 Madison West Regents will rely solely on the pitching staff which returns the majority of innings pitched including Rosenblum-Larson.
