South Milwaukee Preseason I.D.: Preview

PBR Wisconsin’s longest running showcase makes its way back to Hitters Baseball Academy on Sunday, Feb. 25, for the re-branded South Milwaukee Preseason I.D. Perennially, the Hitters-hosted event allows our staff to examine many of the state’s top talents – representing the 2020, 2021, and 2022 classes.

And while this event provides us additional looks to prospects already on our lists and rankings, it always uncovers some of the state’s top prospects who are not yet on our radars.

You’ll notice, this year’s roster is just as prosperous as in years past. Already, eight of the 110-plus prospects set to attend are Division-I bound. Looking back at the 2018 roster, 42 attendees have college commitments in place, 60 commits at the 2017 showcase, and a whopping 101 eventual commits were in attendance at the 2016 showcase.

Briefly, looking back at last year’s roster, top prospects included senior SS/2B Andrew Wiegman (Carmel Catholic, IL; Louisville commit), LHP Connor Prielipp (Tomah, 2019; Alabama), Xavier Watson (South Milwaukee, 2019; Illinois), and OF Steve Jamroziak (Muskego, 2019; Minnesota), among many, many others.

A handful of last year’s 2020 commits in attendance will reappear on Sunday, including Wisconsin’s top-ranked shortstop and No. 7-ranked 2020 prospect overall, Michael Seegers (Home School; Iowa). Central Michigan commit 3B Colton Coca (Case, 2020) will be there on Sunday, and so will RHP Arthur Liebau (Homestead), who is the top-ranked uncommitted pitching prospect in Wisconsin’s 2020 class.

The No. 1-ranked sophomore in Wisconsin is headed to Hitters, too. Ozaukee SS Noah Miller, who just committed to Alabama in November, has continued to improve upon each of our latest looks and we’re wondering what the offseason did to help Miller further develop his exciting game. He’s already one of the top defenders in the region and, as a switch-hitter, is consistently improving in the batter’s box.

One 2021 to eye this weekend is RHP/1B Logan Landers (Brookfield Academy), a 6-foot-8 uncommitted sophomore who we’ve been awaiting to make that next-level leap and could come as soon as this Sunday. Joining Landers as intriguing uncommitted 2021s: No. 4-ranked RHP Mason Ruh (Wisconsin Lutheran), No. 6-ranked sophomore RHP Tyler Peck (Oak Creek), No. 19-ranked RHP Isaiah Cerfus (Union Grove), No. 25-ranked RHP Billy Howard (Menomonee Falls), No. 26-ranked INF/RHP Grant Ross (Pewaukee), and No. 30-ranked C Josh Caron (Sun Prairie). The talent in Wisconsin’s 2021 class is deep and much of it will be on display at Hitters this Sunday.

Peeking at the freshmen set to join us, there’s already a couple who have earned verbal commitments without have played their first inning of high school ball yet: 2022 OF Michael Lippe (Whitefish Bay; Louisville) and SS Tristan Ellis (Greendale; Purdue). We haven’t yet unveiled the state’s Class of 2022 rankings, but Lippe is the No. 34-ranked prospect on PBR’s national overall rankings.

Once we do release the 2022 board, former Junior Future Game representatives OF/LHP James Duncan (Arrowhead) and C Will Vierling (Homestead) should both be ranked near the top for their left-handed bats. Duncan, namely, has live and loose hands and was noted as a 2022 to follow according to National Crosschecker Shooter Hunt back in November.

James Duncan (8/2/18)

One more name to note ahead of Sunday's event: LHP/OF Michael Mulhollon of Westosha Central (2022). The freshman southpaw is highly projectable, standing at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, with big potential on both sides of the ball.
