South Milwaukee Rising Stars ID: Takeaways and Statistical Analysis

By: Wisconsin Staff

On March 22th, the PBR Wisconsin staff traveled to Hitters Baseball Academy in Caledonia, Wis., to host the annual South Milwaukee Rising Stars ID. This event featured prospects from the 2027 and 2028 graduating classes and has consistently provided our staff with the names of players to consider inviting to the PBR Junior Future Games where they’ll represent Team Wisconsin at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA., at the end of the summer.

Now, at the event's conclusion, our staff will begin to compile some of our takeaways from this event while also hitting on some of the day's stat leaders. Below you'll find which players popped to our scouts, as well as which prospects headlined our respective statistical categories.

TAKEAWAYS

+ One of the top performances of the day came from INF/RHP Ira Hilbelink (Cedar Grove-Belgium, 2027). Hilbelink, who is listed at a projectable 5-foot-9, 175-pounds, started his day off by taking a clean round of BP. In the right-handed box, Hilbelink sets up with balance, and utilized a short, quick swing to generate exit velocities upwards of 91 mph and averaged 85.5 mph. While on the infield, Hilbelink is a athletic mover with above-average actions that should only improve as he continues to develop. He would finish his day by putting together an impressive ‘pen. On the mound, the righty is a fluid and controlled mover that works out of a ¾ arm slot. He ran his fastball up to 82 mph and sat 78-81 mph. As for his offspeeds, he spun in a 11/5 curveball with downer action that also flashed some late break. He also killed spin on a changeup that played with occasional run and depth.

+ INF/RHP Cooper Schaefgen (Oconomowoc, 2027;) showed exactly why the University of Louisville wanted to lock up this two-way talent. The 6-foot, 170 pound prospect impressed in all facets of the game. Schaefgen showcased his simple and repeatable swing, back spinning baseballs through the middle of the field and to both gaps, showing off his hitability and the power potential in the bat. On the infield, he has soft hands and quality actions with a good internal clock to make the routine and rangy play at third base. He has enough arm presently with the likelihood of more arm strength coming as his projectable frame fills out. On the mound, Schaefgen’s fastball jumps out of his hand and shows solid carry through areas of the zone at 80 mph. He can also spin a curveball with 11/5 shape and break and showed developing feel for a change up.

+ C Levi Boivin (Neenah, 2027) continued to impress our staff with the bat. The 6-foot, 185 pound backstop has present strength which translates to loud contact. Boivin hits with a relaxed setup and lower hands. He gets to a strong hitting position on time and uses his strong hands to deliver consistent barrel contact through both gaps.

+ INF/RHP Danny Flor (Oconomowoc, 2027) is an athletic framed two-way prospect standing 5-foot-8, 140 pounds with more strength and fill coming. Flor showed off his athletic and well-sequenced swing hitting rockets to both gaps with consistency during his round of batting practice. In the infield, he showed off his reliable hands and quality actions with the ability to really move with a quick first step laterally. On the mound, Flor was pitching comfortably in the upper 70’s with feel to get the baseball to quadrants in the zone. He also featured a SL and a CH giving him a solid three-pitch mix repertoire to keep hitters off balance.

+ INF Max Egan (Whitefish Bay, 2028) definitely opened eyes at the event with the bat. Egan’s 5-foot-10, 145 pound frame is athletic with plenty of room to fill out. Egan used a whole field approach with an athletic swing to hit balls consistently on the barrel. As he continues to fill and mature physically, the power will come to go along with the ability to hit.

+ C Jack Spielmann (Milton, 2027) is an upside prospect with present skills and tools both behind the plate and at the dish. Spielmann stands an athletic and projectable 5-foot-10, 152 pounds with plenty of room to add. The ball was jumping off his bat during his round of batting practice as he showed quick and strong hands to drive the ball all over the field. Behind the plate, Spielmann sets up comfortably giving a low target and has soft and reliable hands as a receiver.

+ INF Taylor Rampetsreiter (Brookfield Central, 2027) impressed at the showcase with the bat. Rampetsreiter uses his quick hands and short compact swing from the inside to consistently deliver the barrel to and through the baseball. His 5-foot-9, 140 pound frame has plenty of room to add size and strength and our staff is confident he will be able to get to power in the future.

+ INF Charlie Wronski (Marquette University, 2027) stands at an athletic and projectable 5-foot-10, 160 pounds is a name that continues to show out well in game and in event. Wronski put together a very nice day both at the plate and in the infield. Wronski was hitting rockets to both gaps with a short swing using his strong hands to control the barrel. He registered the 5th highest exit velocity of the event at 86 mph. In the infield, Wronski possesses quality footwork, a good clock and reliable hands to consistently make both the routine and the rangy play. He has plenty of arm strength to stick on the left side of the diamond showing off the second best velocity of the day on defense at 80 mph.

+ 2B/RHP Anthony Sirocchi (Westosha Central, 2027) is listed at 5-foot-7, 150 pounds with an athletic and projectable frame. Sirocchi is a two-way prospect who had a strong day on both sides of the ball. At the plate, Sirocchi has a rhythmic swing with a flat path which allowed him to hit consistent line drives through the middle of the field. He shows clean actions and soft hands in the middle infield and looks to be a defender who will stick in the middle of the diamond. On the mound Sirocchi showcased an athletic and repeatable delivery with a fastball in the mid-70s and a curveball that he consistently executed to areas in and below the zone.

+ INF/RHP Boden Bradner (Hartford Union, 2027) is listed at a strong and athletic 5-foot-8, 150 pounds. At the plate, Bradner showcased his very quick hands and consistent barrel control and was juicing balls all over the diamond during his round of batting practice. Bradner had the 6th best max exit velocity of the day at 85 mph. On defense, Bradner has a quick first step, clean transfers and an accurate arm to stick at 3B. On the mound, Bradner was up to 79 mph, executes a breaking ball for strikes with a 10/4 shape and flashes a quality change up.

+ LHP/OF Prescott Sanford (Franklin, 2027) is a prospect who opened some eyes with what he was able to do as a two-way prospect. Sanford is an athletic framed player who stands 5-8, 150 pounds. Sanford controls the barrel well staying on top and hitting backspin line drives through the middle of the field. His 85 mph max exit velocity was tied for 6th best at the event. On the mound, Sanford’s delivery is athletic and repeatable and gets his fastball into the upper 70’s with feel for the zone. He also deploys a slider with lateral break and depth at the plate and feel for a change up with late running action.

+ INF/LHP Cal Schneider (New Berlin Eisenhower, 2027) is a frame that stands out due to the projectability and the long levers he possesses. As a hitter Schneider controls the barrel in an overall free and easy swing with feel to drive the ball on a line. In the field at first base Schneider showed an overall feel for the position with soft hands and feel for the bag, on his throws over to third Schneider showed an accurate arm from a high ¾ slot. During his ‘pen Schneider impressed a number of our staff members on hand with his overall feel to pitch. Working from a repeatable, drop and drive delivery that works in-line to home to go along with a fluid arm action and feel for three distinct pitches. Schneider showcased a three pitch mix that he throws for strikes, starting off with his fastball that he throws with ride and carry through the zone. Also, showing feel for two different offspeed pitches, his curveball showed some late downer movement at a 1/7 shape, his changeup was thrown with intent with slight running action.

+ INF/RHP Carson Lysaght (Elkhorn, 2027) has a projectable, long and lean frame. During his round of batting practice, Lysaght used the middle of the field and showed feel to hit line drives. In the field, Lysaght showed some reliable hands to go along with a quick and accurate arm across the infield. Lysaght turned heads with his performance on the mound, showing an overall athletic look and repeatability in his delivery to go along with a crossfire land that gives opposing hitters a tough look. Lysaght had teased us with his arm strength during the infield portion of the event and it translated to the mound where he had one of the harder fastballs on the day topping out at 78 mph with running action. His offspeed pitches were equally impressive, throwing a sharp curveball that profiles as a potential out pitch in the future, and his fading changeup that he throws with intent and has the ability to throw for strikes.

+ INF/RHP Caden Baker (Mukwonago, 2027) has a frame that stands out, currently standing at 6-foot-1, 165-pounds, with some present strength and projects to fill out even more as he matures. During his round of batting practice, Baker got into a strong hitting position and took a direct path to the ball with feel to back spin the ball through contact. In the field he gave us a clean look; showing his ability to move, playing low to the ground, and being accurate on his throws across the diamond with his hardest throw coming in at 79 mph. On the mound, Baker showed off his athleticism in a highly repeatable and loose delivery with a crossfire land that will give hitters a tough angle to hit from. Baker’s arm strength was obvious throughout his ‘pen and projects to continue to improve as he matures. His hardest fastball came in at 77.4 mph, with ride and carry through the zone and plays well in the top part of the zone. He also has a sharp curveball with late 10/4 break to the pitch, and a changeup that is thrown with intent and fade.

+ INF/RHP Gavin Zastrow (Oak Creek, 2027) is a prospect that opened some eyes with his potential impact as a two-way player. During his round of batting practice, Zastrow took a direct path to the baseball and created some backspin at contact driving the ball to the middle/opposite part of the field. In the field Zastrow has clean hands, plays with smoothness and under control and gets the ball out quick to first base. On his throws across the diamond, Zastrow showed accuracy to first base and the ability to throw off platform. On the mound, he showed an athletic delivery to go along with a quick, clean and loose arm action. Zastrow’s fastball was thrown downhill with feel to throw to different spots, his curveball flashed 12/6 shape with the ability to land in the zone, lastly his changeup which was thrown with intent with late fade and depth.
