Stock Report: 2014 OF Carter Howard

Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

Today’s stock report is on Carter Howard. Howard is a 2014 graduate of Wisconsin Heights HS where he is the everyday centerfielder for the Vanguards. The fleet footed centerfielder was called up to the varsity squad as a freshman and has held down the centerfield job ever since.

Howard is a table setter for the Vanguard lineup where he displays his speed on the bases as he has yet to be caught stealing. After talking with Wisconsin Height’s 2012 Head Coach Doug Coe, he marvels at Howard’s ability to cover ground in centerfield. “Where he excelled was on the defensive side of the field.  In centerfield, there were not many balls that had a chance to drop. He caught everything that was hit in the air”, said Coe. Not only can he cover ground but Howard also recorded 9 assists from the outfield in 2012.

The 5-foot-11, 155-pounder also contributed on the mound. The left-handed pitcher threw 25 innings in which he struck out 30 on the year, getting his team out of countless jams throughout the season.

Coach Coe also had this to say about Howard, “Carter is a great young ball player and young man.  He is a coach’s dream to have because he is willing to do anything that is asked of him for the better of the team and he will succeed.”

Howard’s progress will be watched closely as we near the start of the 2013 season.
