Stock Report: 2014 RHP Austin Schulfer

Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

Today’s stock report is on right handed pitcher Austin Schulfer. Schulfer is a slender, projectable arm in the Class of 2014 who shows a lot of upside. A Stevens Point Area Senior High product, Schulfer stands 6-foot, 145-pounds.

As a sophomore he helped lead the Panthers to a Conference, Regional, and Sectional Championship in 2012. Schulfer posted a 5-1 record with 4 saves in 33 innings pitched for the Panthers, all while striking out 28 and walking 11. After winning the Wisconsin Valley Conference Championship Schulfer received all-conference honorable mention, going 3-0 on the mound with a 0.88 ERA. He also struck out 17 while walking 5 in 16 innings pitched.

Schulfer continued his hot hand into the summer where he went 4-0 for Plover Legion in 29 innings pitched. He showed his dominance by striking out 44 batters and posting a 1.21 ERA.

Although we have yet to see Schulfer on the gun, it is reported by multiple sources that he has touched 89 mph. Coach Opper of Plover Legion says, “Austin normally sits 85-87 mph with his fastball that has good movement and has been clocked up to 89 mph.”

Schulfer will definitely be one to keep an eye on as he continues to develop his body and grow as a pitcher. He should garner plenty of attention from college coaches as he prepares for his junior season.
