Stock Report: 2015 LHP Joseph Kaszubowski

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

Joseph Kaszubowski is a unique athlete. The Whitefish Bay HS two-way player is not only a standout on the baseball field but also on the diving board.  Last year Kaszubowski won the Wisconsin Division 2 state diving championship. He also has a gymnastics background which proved helpful on the diving board and also shows well in his athleticism on the baseball field.

Kaszubowski is a 2015 graduate who showcases an athletic game from the left side. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound left handed two-way player has showed well both on the mound and in the outfield. His arm works well on the mound and shows projectability. His delivery shows moderate effort with a smooth rhythm from a tall and fall style approach. His delivery is clean, mechanically sound and athletic. Kaszubowski’s arm action is loose and shows quickness operating from a ¾ arm slot.

The lefty’s fastball shows command at 80-81 mph demonstrating a better feel for the arm side of the plate, also showing arm side run. His changeup is an above average pitch, showing excellent deception while being thrown with fastball arm speed. The pitch shows above average action to his arm side and thrown with command; excellent feel at 72-74 mph. His curveball lacks consistent action but is best when thrown with sweeping action at 66-68 mph.

Overall Kaszubowski shows feel for multiple pitches with excellent velocity splits between secondary pitches showing potential pitchability.

Defensively he demonstrates athletic actions in the outfield with a loose arm action at 84 mph from his crow hop.

Offensively he hits from the left side with a balanced setup using a smooth load and short stride. Kaszubowski repeats his swing well with a short bat path and a line drive, pull side approach, coupled with a fluid rhythm.

Kaszubowski will undoubtedly make more than just an impact on the diving board for Whitefish Bay HS as he and fellow sophomore left handed pitcher Nick Lackney should make quite the 1-2 punch for the Blue Dukes for years to come.
