Stock Report: 2016 OF Joe Acker

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director – Wisconsin/Illinois

Joe Acker (Marquette University HS, 2016) has steadily been seeing his game on the rise. This winter we recently saw Acker with improved arm strength from the outfield at 88 mph and running a 7.09 60.Joe Acker

At 5-foot-11, 155-pounds Acker has an athletic build with room for added strength. Offensively he hits from a balanced stance with a smooth loading action and short stride. His lower half works with solid balance. He has excellent hands with an advanced bat path that is short to the baseball with extension. Acker’s swing produces consistent line drives and works from gap to gap.

Defensively he uses an athletic crow hop in the outfield and plays through the baseball well. His arm action is long from an over the top slot producing carry and accuracy.

Acker has just recently started the recruiting process and has yet to make serious connections at the next level but he knows what he is looking for.

“I personally am looking for a college that is a good fit for me academically and has a strong competitive baseball program with the chance of reaching the College World Series. I’m also looking for a program that needs outfielders in the class of 2016. I will also look at how long the coaches have been in the program and their track record.”

Last summer at Marquette HS Acker was brought up to the varsity squad a couple weeks into the season where he contributed at 3B and DH. Acker noted that he will be forgoing his high school summer season to play competitive travel baseball with STiKS Academy this summer.

As Acker’s recruiting process continues to heat up we will be keeping close tabs on yet another high level recruit in Wisconsin’s Class of 2016.
