Summer Preseason I.D.: Quick Hits

The Summer Preseason I.D. Showcase took place on Saturday May 13th at the new STiKS Academy in Waukesha, WI. The event had about 70 players take part in a pro style workout in front of the PBR Scouting Staff. The highlight of the event was the pitching portion, where some players popped up and others made a jump. Today we begin the event analysis highlighting some of the top performers.

  • 2019 RHP Riley Letourneau (Brookfield East) made strides from the winter. Clean mechanics with smooth rhythm, his fastball sat 85-86 mph. Curveball was best secondary offering at 66-72 mph with 12-6 shape and depth.

  • 2020 strong framed RHP Chris Byhre (Kettle Moraine) sat 83-86 topping out at 87 mph with his fastball. Curveball flashed tight spin with late breaking action at 62-65 mph.

  • 2018 pitchers Jackson Mandella (Nicolet), Cole Surprenant (Kewaskum), and Isaac Dirker (Howards Grove) showed improved velocity and secondary offerings.

  • 2018 SS Teig Chase (Kettle Moraine) ran a 6.99 60 yard dash. Defensively he has fluid actions and soft hands. At the plate he showed a balanced approach and strength thru contact with 89 mph exit velocity.

  • Illinois State commit Bryce Konitzer (Mukwonago) worked at an easy 85-86 topping out at 87 mph with his fastball. He has feel for his changeup at 76-77 mph with heavy running action.

  • 2018 RHP Nicalas Wanker (Oak Creek) popped up at the event with a fastball that topped out at 88 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape and flashed sharp breaking action at 72-75 mph.

  • 6-foot-2, 210-pound catcher Jack Pawlak (Grafton) showed a strong arm behind the plate throwing 79 mph from the crouch.

  • OF Tyler Gaecke (Mukwonago) showed strength thru contact with 92 mph exit velocity from a tee, defensively plays thru the ball and threw 83 mph from the outfield.

  • 2019 C/OF Colin Kalinowski (Oak Creek) showed a strong arm from behind the plate throwing 78 mph from the crouch and also from the outfield where he threw 84 mph.

  • Toolsy outfielder Sean Sanchez (Greendale) threw an event best 87 mph from the outfield and registered 97 mph exit velocity from a tee.
