The Best of the Kenosha I.D.: Eli Campbell

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the PBR Wisconsin team will host its first showcase of the 2020 season at the Fielder’s Choice Training Facility in Kenosha, Wis., for the annual Kenosha Preseason I.D. showcase.

Throughout this week, we’ll be highlighting some of this showcase’s top performers over the last few years, starting today with RHP Eli Campbell, a 2018 South Milwaukee graduate who spent last spring as a freshman in Bradley’s pitching staff. Campbell appeared in one game in his first year on campus as spent the summer in the Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate Baseball League as a member of the Paducah Chiefs.

Prior to making his collegiate debut, Campbell concluded his prep career as the No. 14-ranked prospect in the state’s 2018 class and was the No. 5-ranked right-handed pitcher. You can find scouting reports collected over his prep career in the bio below.

Scouting Report

3.25.18 - Bradley signee. Ranked No. 27 in Wisconsin’s Class of 2018. 6-foot-5, 185-pound right-handed pitcher, large, physical frame, broad shoulders and thick lower half, proportional weight distribution. Turned a number of heads after his first inning of work, used approximately 10 pitches to record three outs. Fastball, gets on-top, works downhill with tilt, 87-88, touched 89 in his first inning. Inconsistent velocity in next two innings, 84-88 in second, 83-85 in third touching 86 once. Spin rates mainly sit in the 2000-2200 rpm, with a few scattered in below and above. Curveball, 12/6 shape, commanded, good feel for, confident in, sat 72-73, ranged from 70-75, spin rate 1800-2200.

7.27.17 - Bradley commit. 6-foot-5, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher, large frame with room to physically define.On the mound, long, circular arm action, high ¾ arm slot, works on-line, lands square, finishes crossing over. Fastball, tilt, 83-86 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, commands, repeats, throws in any count, 65-71 mph.

7.7.17 - 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting infielder with an athletic frame. Played third for PBA. Athletic actions, plays well on the run. At the plate middle of the field approach with a short swing path.

3.5.17 - Verbally committed to Bradley.

1/28/17 - 6-foot-5, 185-pound right-handed pitcher, long lanky frame, highly projectable. Delivery is athletic, wide rocker step to loose knee lift, works down the hill., uses slide step in stretch. Arm action is quick and loose, high ¾ slot, slight head and shoulder tilt at release, projects well. Fastball has some tilt, 85-87 mph. Curveball showed tight spin, 11/5 shape, 69-71 mph. Straight changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed, 76-78 mph, occasional sink. Campbell is a high follow 2018 prospect.

7/7/16 - 6-foot-4, 175-pound right-handed pitcher with a lanky frame and room to add more strength. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a loose, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery. Fastball sat 78-79 mph with more velocity to come as he grows into his frame. Cuveball has 12-6 shape with depth at 65 mph. Flashed a changeup that was straight at 72 mph.

2/28/16 - 6-foot-4, 175-pound right-handed pitcher, long lanky frame, slender build, highly projectable. Tall and fall delivery, works downhill creating tilt, stays on line, maintains good balance. Regular effort, shows arm speed, over the top slot. Fastball works downhill, good tilt, down in the zone with good feel, showed an ability to command, 77-79 mph, touched 80 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, sat 64 mph consistently, showed feel with an ability to drop for strikes. Changeup sat 71-73 mph, above average pitch. High ceiling 2018 prospect to follow.
