The Growth of 2015 RHP Jack Bredeson

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director – Illinois/Wisconsin

Jack Bredeson has been one of the biggest risers in the state of Wisconsin this summer. A 2015 graduate of Arrowhead High School (summer high school baseball), Bredeson was barely known in the recruiting world. Then Bredeson burst onto the scene earlier this summer.Jack Bredeson

We had first seen Bredeson at the Midwest Future Game Tryout back in late June where he stood out right from the get go standing 6-foot-5, 215-pounds. At that time Bredeson showed an 83 mph fastball that had uncanny deception, unable to pick it up until about half way to the plate, and a heavy feel that worked down in the zone. It was obvious at the time that Bredeson’s big frame could produce more velocity, add that to his already deceptive and heavy action and you have the makings of something special.

Fast forward six weeks to the Midwest Future Games and Bredeson came out hot and heavy with his fastball now at 86-87 mph, although giving up two runs no one was able to get the ball in the air as Bredeson gave up back to back seeing-eye singles. On day two Bredeson backed it up with another 85-86 mph fastball performance and a harder curveball at 71 mph, this time recording the save and not allowing a run.

Even more recently Bredeson showed his stuff again at the Labor Day Challenge at Illinois State University. There he showed similar stuff to that of his Midwest Future Games performance sitting comfortably at 84-86 mph for more than five innings. Bredeson showed flashes of an improving breaking ball touching 72 mph. At one point Bredeson retired nine straight hitters while only using his heavy fastball.

Bredeson is one of the more interesting prospects in the class as he brings unteachable assets to the table with his size and deceptive fastball. The big righty has been getting plenty of Division 1 attention this summer and should only grow as he continues to improve his craft.
