The Rock Summer Classic 13/14U: Quick Hits Day 3

Wisconsin Staff

It was a full Day Three over at The Rock Sports Complex as bracket play for both the 13/14U levels started today. The ever so competitive playoff atmosphere at The Rock gave us a ton of interesting games to watch and a handful of prospects stood out when their teams needed them the most. With championship Sunday on the horizon, read up on the Day Three highlights below.

13U

+ STiKS White 13U secured their grasp on the number one overall seed for their 13U division by winning 12-2 victory early Saturday morning. RHP Bennett Klages (2025) struck out the side in the first inning and. started off the bottom half of the inning with a double into the left-center gap, eventually scoring on a sac fly by Mac Wagner. What truly got the STiKS rolling offensively was a bases-clearing double to dead center by JP Flannery (2025). Michael Thiede (2025) put the game out of reach with a triple over the center fielders head that scored three runs. STiKS White earned a first-round bye and will play at noon on Sunday.

+ GRB Rays Yellow 13U won their first pool game on Thursday and came back strong today after not playing at all yesterday. They picked up right where they left off offensively today, scoring 14 runs en route to a victory. Dominic Malich (2025) had only one hit, but he drove in three runs and walked twice, reaching base in each plate appearance. Caleb Liggon (2025) and Broden Frosch (2025) each had two hits and drove in at least one run. Despite not getting into the hit column, left-handed hitter Ezra Liggon (2025) continues to impress in the box, walking three times. He has an advanced recognition of the strike zone and has rarely offered at pitches that aren’t in the zone all weekend. Their offense did just enough, earning them the number one overall seed in one of the 13U divisions.

+ Thunder Gold 13U continued to swing the bats well today, winning their first round playoff matchup rather easily. Led by Jacob Creeth (2025) and Teo Greco (2025), the Thunder scored 16 runs in just three innings. Creeth had three hits on the day, driving in three and scoring three times as well. Greco was the big standout today, putting on a show offensively with his smooth, compact stroke. He showed off some easy pull-side power, just missing a home run to left field by a few feet. Greco peppered that left field wall again in his next at-bat for a stand up triple. He was responsible for four of the Thunder’s 16 runs and came across home to score twice. A potent offense led by several interesting offensive threats at the top, this Thunder squad is clicking in all facets entering championship Sunday.

+ Revolution Baseball 13U showed us what they could do offensively Saturday afternoon, scoring 14 runs in just five innings. From start to finish, this Revolution team took quality at bats from top to bottom. A trio of teammates paced them on offense in this game: Jalen Moraga (2025), Tommy Regan (2025), and Scotty Szafraniec (2025). Regan and Szafraniec each had two-run doubles in what would eventually become a five-run first inning for Revolution. Moraga would eventually get in on the action, lacing a two-run triple to the right-center field gap. They’ll face off in an offensive heavy matchup against STiKS White at noon on Sunday.

+ A competitive playoff matchup between GRB Rays White and Pro Player Canes Lovell ended in dramatic fashion. Alex Sartor’s (2025) third hit of the day was his most important one - a single that pushed past the third baseman for a walk off victory. GRB Rays White advances to championship Sunday and will play tomorrow morning at 10 AM against their organizational friends, GRB Rays Yellow.

+ RHP Zach Rysavy (Huntley, 2024) and RHP Chase Bennett (Huntley, 2024) combined to throw a no-hitter Saturday afternoon. The duo combined for eight strikeouts and, while they did surrender three unearned runs, did not allow a hit through five innings of play.

14U

+ We got our first live look at GRB Rays Yellow 14U early this morning in their final pool game prior to bracket play commencing. The Rays woke their bats up early and often, riding an offensive momentum that started in the first inning to a 14-4 victory. Home runs by starting pitcher Brayden Ramus (2024) and left-handed hitting 3B Robert Grignon (2024) helped propel a six-run first inning for GRB. Grignon barreled one up to his pull-side in his second at-bat, finishing the day off with five RBIs. A huge run producer for the Rays, five-hole hitter Jefferson Mobry (2024) went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in five runs. He cleared the bases with a double down the right field line in the second inning, sapping all the momentum from their opponents and tilting it over to GRB. Brady Mann (2024) went 2-for-2 with a double and Sam Vargas (2024) had three hits.

+ The Milwaukee Hitmen bats were very much alive during their first-round playoff matchup. The Hitmen had eight hits in four innings, ultimately winning their first playoff game 11-1. Max Johnson (2024) made his second start of the tournament, tossing a complete game shutout in four innings of work and striking out eight. He was a key contributor on offense as well, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Charlie Knight (2023) kicked off their offensive attack with a double to the left field fence that drove in two. Gage Kotke (2024) one upped his teammate shortly after, hitting a fastball over the left field fence for a three-run home run. With their victory today, the Hitmen advance to the final four of the 14U division and will look to push for a championship tomorrow afternoon, drawing ISA Stars Royal for their first game.

+ ISA Stars Royal won their first matchup 7-0, advancing to championship Sunday as the top overall seed in their 14U division. Starting pitcher Cal Casper (Pulaski, 2024) continues to solidify himself as an all-around high-end prospect in Wisconsin’s 2024 class. Casper threw a complete game shutout, allowing one hit, and striking out nine. OF Micah Marzec (2024) led the Stars’ offense, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. ISA will square off against the Milwaukee Hitmen in the final four game on Sunday at noon.

+ After winning their first game earlier today, GRB Rays Yellow 14U wasted no time getting their bats hot in a 13-0 victory over PTA White. GRB combined for thirteen hits and twelve RBIs in just three innings of offense. Brayden Ramus (2024) led the team offensively, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Brady Mann (2024), Jefferson Mobry (2024), Robert Grignon, (2024) and Will Deets (2024) each had two hits. Starting pitcher Sam Vargas (2024) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing four hits and striking out four.

+ The third overall seed in the 14U division, Phenom Illinois grinded their way to a 5-0 victory and secured a spot in the final four by doing so. Starting pitcher Colby Aschenbach (Huntley, 2024) went six strong innings, scattering six hits throughout while striking out seven. INF Griffin Goldstein (Huntley, 2024) and 3B/RHP Malachi Paplanus (Huntley, 2024) put runs on the board to support their pitcher’s valiant effort. Goldstein poked two singles into the outfield grass, while Paplanus hammered a double to left field that drove in two runs. The contributions from Colin Early (Jacobs, 2024) were certainly needed as he went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs. Paplanus entered yesterday’s game in a sticky situation and shut the door, earning his team a victory while securing them the third overall seed in the process. He came back to close this one out and looked even better, striking out two batters in his lone inning of work. A highly projectable arm that works loose and easy on the hill, Paplanus was pumping 76-78 mph on his heater, an uptick from what we saw yesterday. Even his breaking ball looked better today and flashed advanced actions that pair well with his fastball. With a complete team win in the books, Phenom will face off against the Coamo Legends at 2 PM on Sunday.

+ The Coamo Legends 14U team just continues to turn heads every time they’ve stepped on the field this weekend. They’ve scored 27 runs through three games and have held their opponents to just five runs - a fairly impressive mark. RHP Jayson Lopez (Ridgewood, 2024) got the starting nod for Coamo and was the only arm they used. He threw five scoreless innings and held a left-handed heavy lineup to just one hit throughout. 3B Justin Vera-Medina (N/A, 2024) is a legitimate power hitting option with advanced raw power and bat strength in his strong, proportional frame. He’s clobbered some baseballs this weekend and did so today, barreling a baseball into the left-center gap for a two-run double. The ball certainly jumps off his bat when he finds the barrel, something he’s done quite frequently in this three game sample size. Coamo will look to stay hot against a competitive Phenom Illinois squad tomorrow at 2 PM.

+ INF Kyle Alivo (Franklin, 2024) is a lanky, projectable right-handed hitting middle infielder for PTA Cardinal 14U. Alivo had a productive day at the dish hitting out of the two-hole, smacking two doubles the opposite way and coming around to score once.
