Top-10 Player Profiles of 2018: No. 9 Nathan Stevens

It’s countdown season and time to put a bow on 2018. Our Top-10 Countdown to the new year highlight the most viewed profiles and the most important stories of 2018. After analyzing PBR Wisconsin’s web traffic over the past 12 months, we’ve assembled a list of the most-read stories and profiles that generated the most clicks and views.

Next up on our Top-10 Player Profiles of 2018 at No. 9 is C Nathan Stevens (Waunakee). Stevens is an Arkansas commit and one of the top five seniors in the state. Stevens was on a national pedestal this summer at some of the countries highest profile events. Stevens is a 2019 draft consideration due to his premium left-handed bat and capped off his 2018 junior campaign leading Waunakee to a D1 State Title. Just a few of his 2018 milestones that led to more than 3,000 clicks on the year.

7/10/18 - University of Arkansas commit. 6-foot, 197-pound, left-handed hitting catcher/outfielder, well-proportioned, live, athletic body. Offensively, relaxed, even setup, short load, smooth stride, excellent balance throughout. Strong hands, quick twitch ability, level path with extension through the hitting zone, repeatable hard contact, back spun balls to pull side gap, rhythm involved. Plus bat speed, exit velocity topped 93 mph from a tee. Lined an opposite field single in game, hard out of the box. From the outfield, gets behind it the ball, plays through with ease, windup exchange, short/clean, over the top slot, throws carried 89 mph to home. Behind the plate, pop times ranged from 1.98-2.08. Hands work, early out of the crouch, clean transfer, short arm, over the top slot, throws topped 78 mph to second. Did not run the 60.

3/11/18 - Arkansas commit. Ranked No. 2 in Wisconsin’s Class of 2019. 6-foot, 197-pound, left-handed hitting catcher and outfielder, athletically-built with present strength. Offensively, balanced setup, smooth load back, short stride, remains balanced throughout. Gap-to-gap hitter, quick twitch hands, natural lift in swing, present bat speed, fluid rhythm, 98 mph exit velocity. Ran a 6.90 laser-timed 60. Defensively, behind the plate, traditional catcher’s arm action, short and loose, over-the-top slot, throws carry at 81 mph out of the crouch. Fields position athletically, quick and fluid actions, pop times ranged 1.87-1.95. From the outfield, short, loose arm action, slot varies between over-the-top and high ¾, 92 mph.

3/12/17 - Arkansas commit. 5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting catcher, loose lean frame with athleticism. Premium left-handed bat, hits from an open stance, leg kick trigger, active hand load. Hands are loose, violent aggressive swing, barrel control. Explosive bat speed, short path with extension, athletic hitter. 97 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed quick catch and throw actions, gets out of the chute well with big arm that carries at 80 mph out of the crouch. Pop times ranged 1.92-2.00. Showed a big arm from the outfield as well, 90 mph. 7.17 runner in the 60.

7/26/16 - Arkansas commit. 5-foot-11, 160-pound catcher, lean athlete, loose live body. Left-handed hitter, leg kick stride, good balance. Loose fast hands, quick twitch at the plate, fast bat hits off back side. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm carries well, 77 mph out of the crouch, short over the top slot. Pop times ranged 2.01-2.11, quick clean exchange, flashed soft hands, athletic receiver. 4.54 runner down the line.

7/7/16 - Arkansas commit. 5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitting catcher with an athletic frame, will continue to add strength to his frame. Had a big day at the plate going 3-3 with a triple, double, and single. Advanced approach. Hits from an open stance with a smooth load and fluid rhythm. Leg kick stride, creates leverage at the plate, short, uphill swing path with a fast bat. Defensively has a short, loose arm action from an over the top slot. Throws showed carry to second base. Popped 2.19-2.25 in between innings. 

4/3/16 - Verbally committed to Arkansas.

3/13/16 - Arkansas commit. 5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitting catcher, loose lean athletic frame, projectable body. Offensively hits from an open setup, short stride back to even, lower half works, good balance. Made consistent hard contact, loose hands, barrel aware. Fast loose bat, path is short, confident in the box, looks hitterish with a gap to gap type approach. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played short and quick, 75 mph out of the crouch, slight carry. Soft hands receiving, flexible setup, athletic defender behind the plate, good agility out of the crouch. Pop times ranged 2.00-2.18. Ran a 7.50 60.

3/29/15 - 5-foot-9, 135-pound left-handed hitting catcher, lean athletic frame, project well. High follow prospect. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride, slightly dives, lower half works, maintains balance. Highly athletic swing, fast bat speed, quick twitch type swing, line drive hitter, hard contact. 84 mph exit velocity from the tee, plus bat for age. Defensively showed arm strength from the outfield, 79 mph, moved well, 4.29 runner home to first. Out of the crouch arm plays short, over the top, carries, 71 mph out of the crouch. Pop times ranged 2.18-2.29, good catch and throw prospect. Stevens looks to be one of the top prospects in the 2019 class.

4/5/14 - 5-foot-5, 117-pound left handed hitting catcher/outfielder. Offensively displayed an impressive game. Hits from a slightly open stance, smooth loading action with short stride. Front foot type hitter, short path, with occasional extension, line drive type with occasional pull side approach, loose athletic hands. 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively played out of the crouch with a short loose arm action, over the top slot. Posted pop times at 2.32-2.47, arm played at 66 mph from the crouch. In the outfield arm registered at 73 mph, athletic footwork, played through the baseball. 4.44 runner down the line.
