Uncommitted Senior Spotlight: RHP Charlie Campbell

By Andy Sroka
Staff Writer, Associate Scout

Here at the start of the New Year, we’re going to be spending some time highlighting the best of the state’s uncommitted senior class.

Fellow uncommitted seniors in Wisconsin are also welcome to register for Sunday's showcase in the Chicagoland area, the Unsigned Senior Showcase. Staffs from both states will be in attendance, too.

South Milwaukee's Charlie Campbell is a spindly righty, ranked No. 70 in the state's senior class. Campbell's trending up, too, given his size and feel to pitch, it's reasonable to believe that there's a velocity jump to expect here in the not-too-distant future. We last saw Campbell back in July twice at The Rock, once at a showcase and once pitching for his travel club, PBA. Both times Campbell impressed with his ability to spot his fastball, sitting 79-82 mph, touching 83, all while mixing a curve he can manipulate the shape of. It looks like we'll be seeing Campbell at this Sunday's showcase in Chicago as well, so we're excited to see how the offseason has been going for him.

Scouting Report

7/25/19

Uncommitted lanky 6-foot-6 right-hander. Campbell’s thin frame, but long limbs, have earned him a projection label, but it looks like it’s all coming together for him as he enters his senior year of high school. On Friday, he earned a four-inning, no-hitter and K’d four STiKS Red batters, too. Campbell sat 79-82 mph, touching 83 mph a couple of times – it’s a mark we’ve yet to see for ourselves in person. Campbell also expertly mixed in feel for a slow curve with above-average depth that he buried under the zone, and also managed to throw it firmer when he wanted to add more sharp/late bite. He’s ascending and growing into his long and lean frame at just the right time, and his start Friday night might just be the start.
