Unsigned Senior Showcase Preview: Roster and Check-In Times

By Drew Locascio

The Prep Baseball Report Unsigned Senior Showcase at The MAX in McCook, IL will take place on Sunday, January 22, 2017. The open showcase is geared towards all uncommitted 2017 graduates, and will include several colleges in attendance. Over 30 schools were in attendance at last year’s event. Over the last eight years this event has been a staple of the Prep Baseball Report schedule.

Spots are filling up, but there is still time to register for this Sunday’s event. CLICK HERE to sign up for the Unsigned Senior Showcase.

Last year’s event featured a number of impressive prospects. 45 players at last year’s event ended up committing to colleges following the showcase. Infielder’s Ranko Stevanovic (Notre Dame) and Jack Lombardi (Loyola) both impressed with the bat and committed to Southern Illinois and Creighton respectively. Stevanovic showed off pop in his bat and registered a 96 mph. Lombardi routinely squared up baseballs with a gap-to-gap approach.

The Top Overall Prospect from last year’s event was 6-foot-2, 195-pound, right-handed pitcher Anthony Laughlin (Gibraltar, WI), who was an unknown heading into the event. After showing off a quick, short arm and fastball in the mid 80’s he committed to Hill JC in Texas. Jon-Anthony Caban (St. Thomas More, WI) was another right-handed pitcher from Wisconsin who showed well and committed to Madison JC.

There are some well known names coming to this year’s event. One in particular is Angel Salinas. Salinas, a left-handed hitter, was the starting second baseman for Lemont, the Class 3A state champions.

Another player to keep an eye on is Kevin Davis (Lockport). Davis is a 6-foot-8, 200-pound, projectable two-way prospect. At the plate he has a loose swing and flashes occasional easy juice. Davis is also really intriguing on the mound. The right-hander has a clean arm and was up to 85 mph at a camp this fall.

Adam Hillis (Jacksonville), like Davis, is a two-way prospect with an imposing frame. Hillis is listed at 6-foot-4, 240-pounds and has legitimate pull-side power potential at the plate. At the Preseason I.D. - Litchfield event earlier this week, Hillis routinely squared baseballs up while maintaining excellent balance throughout. He also registered the highest exit velocity of the day, 100 mph.
