The Prep Baseball Report Unsigned Senior Showcase at The MAX in McCook, IL will take place on Sunday, January 24, 2016. The open showcase is geared towards all uncommitted 2016 graduates, and will include several colleges in attendance. Over 50 schools were in attendance at last year’s event. Over the last seven years this event has been a staple of the Prep Baseball Report schedule. This event has sold out every year in existence and players must be pre-registered for this event.

Spots are limited, but there is still time to register for this Sunday’s event. CLICK HERE to sign up for the Unsigned Senior Showcase.

Last year’s event featured an impressive number of interesting prospects. 32 of last year’s participants ended up committing to colleges following the event. There were a number of high level arms at the event. Long and lean 6-foot-4 RHP Ryan Weiss (South Elgin HS) was ranked as the top overall prospect from the event and later committed to Wright State. Weiss showed excellent three-pitch feel and a fastball that sat 85-86 mph, touching 87. 6-foot-3, 185-pound RHP Brady Schanuel (Belleville East HS) who committed to Parkland College flashed a big, loose arm and a fastball that sat 87-89 mph at the event. Another strong armed RHP in attendance was Wisconsin native Jacob Kopp (West Bend West HS, 2016). Kopp a thick-bodied, 6-foot-1, 230-pound ran his fastball up to 89 mph. Arm worked quick and loose from a high ¾ slot. Kopp ended up committing to Madison College.

This year’s event features a mix of prospects from Illinois and Wisconsin. A known name from Illinois is athletic 3B/OF Percy Walters (Homewood-Flossmoor HS) and he is currently ranked No. 210 in Illinois. Loose, athletic swing with bat speed and a strong arm defensively. Another name to keep an eye on come Sunday is 6-foot-2, 175-pound 2B Kelly Lane (Gwendolyn Brooks HS). Lane has fluid footwork in the field and a short, level path at the plate. Prototypical pitchers frame, long and lean 6-foot-3, 170-pound RHP Noah Dressler (Mascoutah HS) will also be in attendance. Features a long and loose arm action out of a high ¾ window. Dressler ran his fastball up to 83 mph at the Southern Illinois Prospect Games in July.

Representing from Illinois’ northern border, some of Wisconsin’s top uncommitted prospects are also in attendance. RHP Jon-Anthony Caban (St. Thomas More HS, WI) has been on the rise this winter. Last summer we saw Caban show a high ability to pitch and control the strike zone with low 80’s stuff. Most recently the 6-foot-3, 215-pound right-handed has reportedly been up to 88 mph and gaining interest among colleges.

One of the top speedsters in the state still available, INF/OF Colton Burt (Wautoma HS, WI) has flashed game changing speed in the past. Catcher Tanner Natzke (New Lutheran HS, WI) is also one of the state’s top ranked prospects showing good arm strength and solid pop times. OF Dryden Van Schoyck (DeForest HS, WI) showed one of the bigger bats at the Unsigned Senior Games in Mequon, WI last fall, at 6-foot-4, 200-pounds he’s an intriguing middle of the lineup type prospect.

On top of these known prospects, Wisconsin is always known for under the radar guys surging late in their high school careers, be on the look-out for that to happen again this year. Similar to the rise of RHP’s Luke Thomka (Muskego HS, WI) and Jacob Kopp (West Bend West HS, WI) did at last year’s event.
