Unsigned Senior Showcase Preview: Wisconsin Prospects

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The last Unsigned Senior Showcase for the 2015 class is Sunday, January 11 at the The MAX in McCook, IL. This year’s roster, which combines Wisconsin and Illinois talent, is filled with ranked guys that are still looking for the right fit. Recently we previewed some of the top Illinois players in attendance and today we look at some of the top Wisconsin prospects and what to look for.

J.T. Athy (Cudahy) is the top ranked Wisconsin prospect in attendance, at No. 44 in the state. Athy was at our October Unsigned Senior Showcase as well and came away as the top position player in attendance. Athy then sparked the interest of several suitors and is still searching for the right fit. Look to catch more of the same out of Athy as he should be one of the better infield prospects in attendance. Athy swings it well from the left side and has above average hands to play the middle infield at the next level.

Mike Bauer (Arrowhead) is another ranked prospect in Wisconsin that should turn some heads. Bauer is a solid catch and throw guy behind the plate and can also play the outfield. At 5-foot-11, 180-pounds he has a sturdy build and will get his first shot at WIAA spring baseball this year as Arrowhead has moved to the spring season.

Two-way player Jonathan Keane (Brookfield Central) is a top 100 prospect in the state. Keane’s delivery is balanced and directional while using a clean athletic arm action from a high ¾ slot. Last time we saw Keane he sat 80-82 mph.

RHP Jacob Kopp ran it up to 85 mph in the 2013 summer state tournament for West Bend West. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the 6-foot-1, 230-pound right-hander and it’ll be interesting to see where he stands now.

Other ranked prospects in attendance:

Tyler Moua (La Crosse Logan)
Jack Donahue (Marshfield)
