Updated 2017 Overall Rankings Released

It’s been a busy three-plus months since the last Class of 2017 rankings update. The winter months, both on the state and national levels, have shed more light on this talented and deep senior class. Our updated Top 300 Class of 2017 rankings reflect everything our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff has seen.

It is important to note that the PBR overall rankings only include the states that we intimately know from our scouting staff. The updated Top 300 Class of 2017 rankings is comprised of our current 30-state coverage area, which now includes Nebraska and all New England states.

While there have been significant shakeups in the overall rankings, the top of the list remains largely intact, headlined by 1B Alejandro Toral (Archbishop McCarthy HS, FL). The physical 6-foot-1, 215-pound Miami recruit has continually showed elite left-handed power on the biggest national stages.

OF/RHP Jordon Adell (Ballard HS, KY) slides up a spot to No. 2. The Louisville recruit features the most electric tools in the 2017 class, reminiscent of Monte Harrison (Lee’s Summit West HS, MO) in the 2014 class. The 6-foot-3 Adell runs a 6.5, was clocked in the mid-90s from the outfield, has been as high as 95 on the mound, with arguably the best bat speed in the class. Adell isn’t the only Kentucky product in the top 10, as 6-foot-9 RHP Ben Jordan (West Carter HS, KY) is also one of the top prospects in the 2017 class. Jordan, who is still uncommitted, came out the gates hot this spring, sitting 90-92 with lots of strikes in his first outing.

SS Mark Vientos (Flanagan HS, FL) slides down to No. 3. The highly projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pounder joins Toral in Miami’s stellar 2017 recruiting class.

Also holding firm in the top 10 are a pair of Louisiana prospects – OF/LHP Daniel Cabrera (John Curtis HS, LA) and RHP Blayne Enlow (St. Amant HS, LA) – both Louisiana State recruits. Cabrera is arguably the top two-way player in the class, while Enlow continues his upward trend as one of the fastest-rising right-handers in the country. Hulking 6-foot-6, 245-pound RHP Nicholas Storz (Poly Prep Country Day HS, NY) is another LSU recruit who remains in the top 10 as well.

LHP Jake Eder (Atlantic HS, FL), a hard-throwing 6-foot-4, 210-pounder, is another Florida prospect that maintains his hold in the top 10. Eder burst onto the scene in the fall, when he topped at 93 mph. A relatively unknown prospect prior, Eder is still uncommitted.

There are two new names in the top 10. OF Quentin Holmes (McClancy Memorial HS, NY) continues his ascent up the board. The 6-foot-2 Mississippi State recruit is arguably the best athlete in the class, as he showed this winter by running a 6.39 60 with plus bat speed at the plate. Holmes jumps up to No. 4 overall.

LHP Augie Mihlbauer (Mukwonago HS, WI) vaults up to No. 10 after his stellar showing at a Wisconsin event in March. The 6-foot-1 Texas Christian recruit has an advanced three-pitch mix, which includes an easy 90 mph fastball with late arm-side life.

Outside the top 10, LHP Logan Allen (University HS, FL) is one of the biggest overall risers as Alabama State recruit continues to dominate top-level competition. Other big risers include: LHP Brian Gursky (St. Joseph HS, IN), RHP Matthew Litwicki (Lake Central HS, IN), RHP Landon Leach (Pickering HS, ON), OF/LHP Randy Bednar (Landon HS, MD), RHP Kieran Garner (River Hill HS, MD), RHP Ma’Khail Hilliard (Central HS, LA), RHP Nathan Burns (West Bend West HS, WI), and LHP Ben Dragani (Catholic Memorial HS, WI), to name a few.
